Albany’s Purim Goes Overboard

ALBANY, NY [CHI] — Governor David Paterson and the New York State QuadriCentennial Commission have officially recognized Albany’s Maimonides School as a designated Henry Hudson Partner integrating the historic voyage milestone with school’s programs.

Maimonides students designed and decorated a 16 foot “Halfmoon” replica of the original ship on which Henry Hudson explored the river and discovered Albany 400 years ago.

Escorted by Albany Police cars with flashing lights, the Purim Car parade visited the Bnai Brith Senior Apts. on 400 Hudson Ave. where students exchanged Purim greetings and “Hamantashen” pastries with the senior residents. The Purim Parade then proceeded to Albany’s City Hall where they were welcomed and addressed by the Hudson 400 Commission and NYS Legislators.

Rabbi Rubin offered the invocation at the special joint NYS Assembly Senate session inducting new Regents, and Capital Chabad hosted a Megillah reading and reception by Cantor Avremi Backman for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and NYS legislators.
