A look at the FDNY’s alarm system

The alarm system is used by the New York City fire department and many others across the country to signal how many firefighters and vehicles are needed, either to battle a blaze or to relieve workers throughout the fight.

In New York, the first alarm, usually called “all hands,” requires about 12 units, or 60 firefighters.

A five-alarm fire demands roughly 44 units, or 200 firefighters. And a 10-alarm fire usually means about 70 units, or 350 firefighters, are dispatched. There are a variety of types of units, including ladder companies and engine companies.

Plumes of smoke were visible this morning here in Crown Heights along with the strong smell of smoke which you can still smell now. All this was due to this fire in Greenpoint, which has gone up to a 10th alarm, the largest ever in a decade, other then the 9-11 attacks.

The NY Times

Greenpoint, Broooklyn — A warehouse fire on the East River in Brooklyn on Tuesday sent plumes of thick black smoke over the city that could be seen for miles, as firefighters battled it for hours from land and boats. Eight firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta called it the largest fire in the city in more than a decade, excluding the World Trade Center attack, and said the cause was suspicious.

Flames enveloped the complex of seven vacant warehouses, blocking out the morning light and filling the Greenpoint neighborhood with acrid smoke, and collapsing several building walls.

NYPD Apprehend Vicious Mugger

The blood stained Van and Sidewalk.

About a month ago, CrownHeights.info reported the mugging and vicious beating of a 14 year old Bochur on the corner of Carroll and Schenectady.

About a week after the incident, the father of the Bochur began getting calls from the stolen phone. When the Bochur’s mother called the phone, the boy who answered was surprised to hear that the phone was stolen. He began to explain that he bought the phone for $40 from a boy named Levon, who got the phone from Issaiah. He also told the Bochur’s mother where Issaiah lives and where they all go to school. In middle of the conversation, his sister got on the phone and said that she wanted to have nothing to do with stolen goods and Levon assured her that it was a prepaid phone.

Architect He Wei of Beijing has mapped out construction of government compounds for thousands of workers, choreographed the dizzying dance of steel I-beams and rebar by the ton to raise apartment buildings, but the details of assembling a mikvah at the Rohr Family Chabad Community Centre of Chabad of Beijing, the first ever in vicinity of the Forbidden City, and the first in China since World War II, nearly did him in.

Accident Leaves Car in Apple Drugs Retention Polls

At around 1:20am and loud screech was heard throughout the intersection of Crown and Kingston followed by the definite sound of metal crashing into metal. A black Nissan Maxima which was reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed down Crown St collided with a Buick Park Avenue which was going up Kingston Ave allegedly taking the red light according to witnessing bystanders.

A few Hatzalah members that were right around responded and offered to treat the 2 drivers who were both not Jewish, however they had refused medical attention. The Nissan ended up in the poles in front of Apple Drugs, who had them placed there due to an accident a number of years ago when a car went crashing right into the store.

More Gunshots On The Streets of Crown Heights

At 3:20pm in a store on the corner of Crown St and Nostrand Ave a Black Male was shot in the face. Police responded in very large numbers, including Emergency Services Unit, a Helicopter as well as numerous detectives.

Apparently the shooting was gang related. The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital where the announcement came that he wasn’t likely to survive. The mother and brother of the victim were on the scene of the shooting and were both screaming at the surrounding building that they would be coming to avenge their sibling’s blood. At one point the brother attempted to ‘rush’ the entrance of one of the buildings, only to be stopped by all the officers and detectives that were there.

ESU then formed up in full tactical assault gear (Bullet Proof Vests, Kevlar Helmets, Shields, Drawn Pistols and Assault rifles and equipment to break down doors) and began entering the buildings from the basement. Apparently the Police knew exactly who they were after, and as of now they have not apprehended anyone.

NYPD Responds to the Violence at Kingston and Lefferts

At around 1:30 am the NYPD called for a Level One Mobilization at the corner of Kingston and Lefferts in response to all of the assaults transpiring there. Approximately 10 Officers from the 71st Precinct and about 30 officers from the Brooklyn South Task Force gathered on the corner, in front of the building. They then all together proceeded to enter the building and clear out the place. Police placed the victims of both assaults in a parked car in front of the building to be able to identify the criminals in case they arrest anyone.

Apparently there was a very large party in progress on the top floor of the building and the police cleared it out. Afterwards they went into the building across the street to check it out as well. There were no arrests made. Due to the variety of objects being thrown down from the windows, the police then stood clear of the windows, and advised the pedestrians to follow suit.

It’s worthy to note an incident that took place just prior to all the assaults directed at the Jews. A large brawl occurred directly in front of the building during which a police officer had to call for emergency backup. There were two perpetrators arrested there. Also noteworthy is the fact that this building, owned by a Lubavitcher, is home to some extremely violet criminals who have been convicted in the past, aside from all the problems local residents suffer from them.
