The psychiatric ward at Kings County Hospital is a shameful “chamber of filth, decay, indifference and danger” where patients are subjected to overcrowded conditions, physical abuse and unnecessary injections of mood-altering drugs, a federal lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday by Sidney Hirschfeld, head of Mental Hygiene Legal Service, a state agency, paints a portrait of horrors at the psychiatric ward where patients – including children and the physically disabled – are routinely neglected and abused.

Shliach “Rabbi Mordy” with Rep. Brad Sherman

Jewish Journal

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) patiently waits at the Chabad of the Valley Booth at Last Sunday’s Israel Independence Day Festival at Woodley Park, while “Rabbi Mordy” fumbles around a pile of tefillin trying to find a special set of phylacteries for the congressman — who is a lefty. The rabbi finally finds the right set, pulls up Sherman’s sleeve and wraps the black leather strap around his arm. This is for the heart, the mind and the soul,” he explains, and then recites the blessing slowly, waiting for Sherman to repeat after him. After the ritual is done and the congressman rolls down his sleeve, the rabbi turns constituent.

Important Lag BaOmer Parade Announcement

The following is a letter sent by parade organizers to all the families in Crown Heights and and explains the changes made to the parade setup:

By the Grace of G-d

15 Iyar, 5767

Brooklyn, NY

Dear Parents,

As you may be aware, the Parade Committee has encountered various challenges in their efforts to secure permits for this year’s parade. The reason for this is because the Police Dept. felt that, based on the statistics and pictures from the last parade (5764), we did not attract a crowd large enough to justify blocking traffic on a major artery such as Eastern Parkway.
