Emotions Run High, Again, At Precinct Council Meeting

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — With much anticipation and a rather small turnout, this month’s Precinct Council Meeting opened up promptly at 7:30pm, Mr. C. Karl Cohen, president of the Precinct Council opened with a prayer, followed by the finance report by the treasurer, Mr. Errol Robinson.

As the meeting progressed, the auditorium of the Intermediate School filled with a significant crowd of Jewish residents, all of whom took the time to attend, out of concern for the neighborhoods safety and security. Some residents told CrownHeights.info that their attendance at the meeting tonight was out of support for Shomrim, Crown Heights’s neighborhood volunteer patrol.

The Weekly Sedra – Parshas Shemini

The Rebbe says:

1. The basic outline of this week’s Torah portion is as follows:

The Torah first tells us about the eighth day of the inauguration of the Mishkan (the Tabernacle).

The Torah then continues and recounts how the two eldest sons of Aharon Hakohen (Aaron the High Priest) – Nadav and Avihu – died while bringing a “foreign fire” into the Mishkan.

Towards the end of the portion the Torah tells us the laws of forbidden animals and what constitutes a Kosher animal.

ZHITOMIR, Ukraine [CHI] — It’s became already a usual thing that Jews in the little communities in the western Ukraine receive packages before holidays. So it was also before Purim the year.
