CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — The young black man who was attacked in Crown Heights last month is asking everyone to stop labeling problems in the area as racial in nature.

“I hope that everyone who has been speaking about the problems in Crown Heights will stop making reference to racial tension,” Andrew Charles said on Friday.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — The young black man who was attacked in Crown Heights last month is asking everyone to stop labeling problems in the area as racial in nature.

“I hope that everyone who has been speaking about the problems in Crown Heights will stop making reference to racial tension,” Andrew Charles said on Friday.

Charles was allegedly attacked last month by a group of Jewish men as he was walking down Carroll Street.

A month later, Alon Sherman was allegedly beaten and robbed by two black teens.

Charles said he believes the incidents are isolated and not racially motivated.

“On the streets of Crown Heights, I can tell you there are no tensions,” said resident Sam Stern about the race relations there.

    Gee! Thanks stern. If the yidden start saying the the streets are safe, the police definatly won’t provide more protection. Just wait till one of your kids are beaten up cv”s, we’ll see them if your still saying everything is safe.

    I think this is stupid…

    It is a race issue from both
    sides, it’s a 2 way street people…

    I think the youth from the black
    community see the Jewish people
    as weak and an easy target,
    they may automatically feel a
    need to do something bad to Jews
    because they are so different.

    The Religious community should work
    on it’s racial issues. I’ve been
    in Crown Heights for years and I know
    many people there, I always hear comments such as “Shwartza” Or the N
    word (thats right I hear it all the time). For some reason many people
    from this community seem to think that
    because they better because they are Jewish and they own the world.

    Point is this IS a race issue as
    it is also a CRIME issue. Both sides
    are at fault and should stop pushing
    this aside or attacking anyone
    that disagrees like calling them
    a self-hating Jew.

    thank G-D some one has finely stood up and stated that the crimes are not racily motivated and now we have to let everyone know that the problem is with the police under recording crimes for the past three years allowing the crimes to get bigger

    as far as the beating of the black boy,i beleive that if the patrol memebers were marreid men the situation would not have gotten to its current state. After all a bochur does not have the same judgment as an older person.

    Secondly for those of you who watched the documentary of the oroginal Crown Heights patrol you noticed that they also icluded members of the black cummuinity in the patrol.

    If we are to live in peace and harmony we must give the black cummunity a chance to be part of the crime fighting process.They also suffer from it.

    this way they cannot say that we are out to get them.

    In addition they would know how to care of the criminals better than us and would not be labeled racist.

    This may be a hard reality for some to accept but we have no choice. We have to do what makes sense and not work with our emotins.

    I also think that Dov Hikind was right by suggesting that we start an all new patrolsince this current divisivness only hurts our cummunity.

    Of course it wasn’t a race crime. It’s an easy target crime.

    Quite frankly, I’d prefer that the police officers were NOT on our corners. That’s such a superficial and inefficient way of dealing with crime.

    in the press conference at the JCM the politicians were all talking about strengthening love and brotherhood – diversity and tolerance. that is their solution to a problem that is racial. so government money will go to lovey dovey projects that will eventually lead to inter-marriage. BUT if the incidents are crime – then the police will be strengthened! we need more police – not programs to bring blacks and Jews together. actually we need money for secuirty – it should not go straight to the polics.

    THE PROBLEM IS THE POLICE DEPARTEMENT. they loose reports! they want the crime stats to go down. if you say it is racial then you do not need more police you need programs to teach the different groups to love one another.
    “c’mon people now – smile on your brother everybody get together try to love one another…” we do not want to get together – we want to live side by side and be safe.

    OK OK So here’s a righteous black citizen. It’s a needle in a haystack. The 75% jungle youth are just having a hardy har har with this. The Police cannot for one second let their guard down and think that this is surburbia America. This is coming in a close 2nd to the Bronx.

    This is the FIRST and ONLY incident where a black person was beatn up (and we don’t know if he had anything to be blamed for it). For the past 3 years jewish residents are sufering from constant attacks by blacks, some of them very brutal done by gangs. So pls stop the politics and be objective.

    I was parked near the press conference and let me tell you what i overheard from the black kids father the detective…“the jews” “them jews” “those jews”…said with so much annomosity and hate…lets not kid ourselves….they hate us!

    criminals attacking Jew, Gentile, White,

    blacks attacking Jews, Whites and BLACKS!! but I’m sure when it’s a Jew they enjoy it more.

    he was not beaten up he was killed and until today we don’t know who did it! Who knows maybe the son of a police officer did it and they covering up?

    oh, give me a break. of course these crimes are from the tensions between blacks and whites.
    how did the tension start? by blacks beating us! the whole thing with charles whatever- maybe the guy did it for self defense!

  • Must Deal a Bit More Harshly

    Putting police officers on the corners is not enough. The police need to make arrests. Only then will people be afraid to do all of this evil work.
