Inquiring Photographer Visits Crown Heights

Ita Yankovich – Jewish Press

Question: Workers in some European countries average as many as five or six weeks of vacation a year. In the U.S., it’s two weeks. Are Americans vacation-deprived?

Yes. Americans receive too little vacation time. The longer you work, the more vacation you should accumulate. I think we need four weeks paid vacation like other countries because people come back to work more relaxed, refreshed and eager to work. Productivity would go up if we’d increase our vacation time.

FJC.ru

Rostov-On-Don, Russia –- A memorial ceremony took place near Rostov-on-Don to commemorate nearly 30,000 Jews and thousands of other victims murdered here 65 years ago in the biggest single atrocity of the Holocaust in Russia. The event occurred at the ‘Zmievskaya Balka’ Memorial near the village of Zmievka. Busloads of people made their way here via the same route taken by those who met their death here – the crowd holding the same constituency as those who perished here – young and old, Jews and non-Jews, from all walks of life.

The Weekly Sedra – Parshas Shoftim

The Rebbe says:

1. In this weeks Torah portion the Torah says “Because the man, tree of the field”.

2. The Rebbe brings two opinions on how to understand this verse:

The first opinion: In the Sifri (Halachic Midrash on the books of Numbers and Deuteronomy) our Sages understand that this verse is telling us that man is only sustained from trees.

The second opinion: In the Talmud , our Sages understand that this verse is telling us that man is compared to a tree.

3. The Rebbe now begins explaining each opinion and shows how they are actually not arguing:

Portland, OR — Pairs of rabbinic students and recently ordained rabbis traveling in Oregon are finding so many Jews, that they aren’t covering as much ground as they expected to this summer.

Chabad of Oregon hosted three teams participating in the 60-year-old Rabbinical Student Visitation Program, also known as the “Jewish Summer Peace Corp,” according to local Rabbi Chayim Mishulovin. The educational arm of the Lubavitch movement, Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, sends pairs of rabbinic students to small Jewish communities around the globe each summer.
