By Emily Lodish – The Cambodia Daily

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — “Are these going to be high enough, Mayer?” Saadya Notik asked of the potted palms that had just been wheeled in on a trolley to the Phnom Penh room at the Hotel InterContinental.

Rabbi Mayer Zarchi, 25, from Brooklyn in New York City, leaned back to assess the situation. He squinted and finally nodded his approval.

This Man Knows His Citrus; His Etrog, to be Exact

By David Harmesh – Chabad.org

Nachum Luria’s straw hat has seen better days as he travels, in his open jeep, in the heat to his etrog orchards on the outskirts of Kfar Chabad, Israel. His face shines as we come closer to the orchards, covered in black netting to protect the workers and fruit from the sun. But Luria says that we still have lots of other predators in the form of bugs, “that come to attack the delicate fruit.” Among his many tasks is finding a pesticide that will both protect the precious commodity from nature’s pests and yet not damage the fruit.

By Dovid Zaklikowski – Chabad.org

A Havdalah ceremony in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, marks the end of Yom Kippur.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — Almost one year after the establishment of a permanent Chabad-Lubavitch presence in Vietnam, Jewish life has blossomed across southeast Asia. As evidenced by those in attendance at High Holiday services this month in Ho Chi Minh City, a cross section of world Jewry has been empowered to fully connect with their heritage.

PSA: Simchas Beis Hashoeva Appeal

Boruch Hashem, Tishre 5768

Dear Friends:

How wonderful it is to celebrate Simchas Beis Hashoeva together. Every night, multitudes of Crown Heights residents, plus our thousands of guests here for Yom Tov, come to rejoice in unity with true Ahavas Yisroel. On Chol Hamoed, thousands of Jews from other neighbourhoods, too, join in to enjoy the Simchas Yom Tov, which has become renowned throughout the greater New York area, making it a huge Kiddush Hashem.

Simchas Beis Hashoeva has always been very close to the Rebbe’s heart. Since the Rebbe started this tradition in 5741 (1980), he mentioned it in every Sicha that he spoke every night of Sukos – another tradition he started that year. He continued mentioning these celebrations in his Sukos Sichos every year until 5752 (1991), demanding that everyone, without exception, participate, and often he asked for reports about the Simcha Beis Hashoeva celebrations.

The entrance to the Atlanta-based Chabad-Lubavitch of Georgia

Recording legend Bob Dylan joined Chabad-Lubavitch of Georgia for Yom Kippur services over the weekend. Dylan, who was in town for a concert following the holiday, was called up to the Torah, but otherwise did not cause much of a stir among the congregation.

How a Torah Talks

Irvine, CA [CHI] — It could have been one of those simple and nice Chabad events where people come to socialize and celebrate a special occasion. After all, how really inspiring could it be to watch a person writing? I myself have been to a Siyum Sefer Torah many times. Sure, there is the Jewish music playing in the background, or special food that might be served. But this one was different. Not just that the program was different, but the magical experience of something really spiritual happening. This was an event that I have never witness before – IT WAS REAL!

Inside Chabad: A Big Brother Program To Nurture Children of Shluchim

by N. Margolis – Lubavitch.com

Zevi and Levi Feldman, ages 10 and 12 are brothers. They’re also best friends.

The boys live with their parents, Rabbi Mendel and Basya Chana in Halifax, Nova Scotia, a small town of 600 Jews. Apart from their once-a-year visit to New York, where they get together with cousins and family, they don’t have much opportunity for socializing.

At a young age Zevi and Levi learned that they live in Nova Scotia for a purpose; the boys identify as Chabad shluchim and help their parents in their outreach activities.

Op-Ed: An Open Letter to the Community

You probably know me.

I am the guy that would probably greet you in the morning with a smile and say ‘Good morning’ if I saw you.

I am writing because of the funny looks you always give back in return.

The average reaction of a Lubavitcher to someone telling himher ‘Good morning’ is one of shock, confusion and bewilderment. Most times when I’ll greet someone with a hearty ‘Good morning!’ they’ll stare at me, their eyes bulging from their sockets wondering what planet I hail from, and sometimes they’ll just collapse down to the floor in a dead faint (either literally or figuratively); that’s the reaction of most Frum people.
