Attempted Mugging on President Street

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A young woman on her way to work this morning was accosted by a large Black male who tried to steal her phone. The incident took place at around 8:30am on President Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenues, where the perpetrator approached her, blocked her path and demanded her phone.

She immediately began calling for help and fled, the perp did not follow. The perp was described to be in his early 20’s and heavyset. Following the incident the woman called 911 to file a police report and after waiting for an extended period of time she left the scene without filing a police report.

The change stems from an ongoing legal case involving Rabbi Avraham Bernstein, a member of Chabad Lubavitch, a worldwide Jewish organization headquartered in Brooklyn, N.Y., who has lived on Stillwells Corner Road directly across from the municipal building since 1998.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Mrs. Dasha Spira Lewin, a proud Holocaust survivor who became a top executive with the Neutrogena Corporation and a generous friend of Chabad, will be honored at a memorial service held at the Bais Sonya Gutte campus on Schneerson Square at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17. Mrs. Lewin passed away on September 11, and was laid to rest beside her husband, Maury, in Prague’s Jewish Cemetery.

Jewish Center Wins OK from City

NEWTON, MA — A fast-growing Orthodox Jewish community that has battled the city for nearly five years scored a major victory last week, defeating the last municipal obstacle to building a 12,000-square-foot synagogue in a residential neighborhood in Newton Highlands.

By a vote of 19 to 3, the Board of Aldermen approved Beth Menachem Chabad’s plan to provide just nine parking spaces alongside its new center at 349 Dedham St., at least 60 fewer spaces than zoning rules would generally require.
