Jewish Community Provides Aid Following Dnepropetrovsk Explosion

DNEPROPETROVSK, Ukraine -– Almost immediately after learning about the explosion that destroyed most of a large multi-level residential apartment complex in the Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk, the Jewish community began to render what support it can to those who have suffered from this incident.

The Jewish Community Center, directed by Vyacheslav Brez, is heading the organization efforts to provide this critical assistance. “Now the most important thing is to save what lives are possible… We are praying for the rescue of those lying under the rubble,” he explained.

Prayers for the victims are continually taking place in the Golden Rose Synagogue and the Jewish community of Dnepropetrovsk is also mobilizing material support. The Jewish community has organized a special center and has worked out its plan for providing assistance. It will be released in the near future, publicized, and implemented. The Jewish community calls on all of local Jews to join in this invaluable effort to provide significant aid to these victims.

This tragic occurrence took place on October 13th at 11:00 AM at a ten-storey building, blowing the roof off and destroying property in two of the structure’s four entrances. Search and rescue workers have found another two persons who died from the blast, putting the death toll at 11 persons so far. Another 25 persons are being treated at local hospitals and another 21 residents are still missing.
