Chanukah…South Beach Style
SOUTH BEACH, FL [CHI] — Rabbi Zev Katz and Chabad House on Wheels celebrated their Annual Chanukah Festivities in Miami Beach. Each Chanukah, for the past 6 years, Chabad on Wheels has sponsored a large and growing celebration on Lincoln Road, the center of South Beach.

Siyum Sefer Torah in Bensonhurst
BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — A Siyum Sefer Torah was held in Bensonhurst, by Shliach and Rabbi ‘Tiferes Torah’, Rabbi Avrohom Hertz. The Sefer Torah was dedicated by Moshe and Elka Tseitin, who have become observant by influence of Rabbi Hertz. The couple dedicated the Sefer Torah in honor of their parents and despite the snowy weather a Sefer Torah parade proceeded through the neighborhood.

In the address, the Rebbe explains that through prayer one is able to refine their character traits. He then instructs that prayer should be preceded by proper contemplation so that one can engage in Divine service with the utmost of devotion.
Fundamental Turn-of-Century Chasidic Treatise Released in English
BROOKLYN, NY — The publishing arm of the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch movement, Kehot publications, released a revised translation last month of a fundamental treatise penned at the turn of the 20th century by the Fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneerson, of righteous memory.

Beis Rivka Head-Start Visits Fire Station
BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — Thursday morning, girls from Beis Rivka head start went to visit the fire station on Snyder Ave, [between Rogers and Nostrand Ave], where firefighters from engine 248 and battalion 41 call home. The firefighters showed them around on the fire truck, gave the girls a fire safety lesson and handed out fire safety coloring books.

BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — The commissioner of the NYPD introduced a new program called the ‘Community Partnership Program’ in a gathering in the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Crown Heights Thursday, December 13th.
Residents from Crown Heights, East Flatbush and surrounding neighborhoods attended the forum, which was opened by the Hon. Ray Kelly where he introduced the new program and how it’s meant to address areas of concern and complaints that residents have with the police.

Chanukah Family Extravaganza Rocks Boca Raton
BOCA RATON, FL [CHI] — On Sunday, December 9th, the sixth night of chanuka, Chabad of Boca Raton hosted a Chanukah Family Extravaganza at the Jewish Federation Campus. 1600 men, women, and children participated in the event.

Over 1000 at Chanukah Celebration in Fort Myers

When my uncle, Reb Shlomo Matusof passed away just over a month ago on Rosh Chodesh Kislev, I felt a void that was hard to explain. I had already lost both my parents, my mother 21 years ago and my father fifteen years later, a mere six years ago. I was also equally close to the late Shliach Reb Yehudah Leib a”h Raskin who passed away two and a half years ago, spending countless days and nights visiting him during the last year and half of his life. As well, I lost one of my closest friends in the attacks of 9/11.
As such, I am no stranger to death, but yet, when I walked into the bedroom of Reb Shlomo just minutes after his holy soul departed his body, I was overcome with tears and emotions I had not felt at any previous time.

Speeder Mayhem in front of the Precinct
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — At approximately 8:00pm a speeding motorist caused a trail of wreckage and mayhem on Empire Blvd and New York Ave. The speeding motorist was driving a red Toyota and plowed through three cars before coming to a halt after being wedged under a van.

Jewish Russian Congregation Expanding in Sunny Isles Beach
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL — In a small storefront synagogue in Sunny Isles Beach, Rabbi Alexander Kaller leads a Jewish-Russian congregation that is bursting at the seams.
The 65 seats at the Chabad Russian Center surely are an upgrade from the rabbi’s living room, where the synagogue humbly started off in 2002, or the meeting room at the Oceania condos, where they moved to after a few months.
138 Car Menorah Parade Lights up Boca Raton
BOCA RATON, FL [CHI] — The biggest Menorah parade in the world took place in Boca Raton, Fl. Rabbi Shmuly Gutnick and the Bochrim Yitzchok Yarmush, Mendy Hildeshaim and Mendy Yaffe worked tirelessly putting menorahs on top of cars to prepare for the parade.
