4 Arrested After Throwing Rocks at School Bus

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A month and a half ago a Lubavitcher Yeshiva school bus loaded with 13 young children on their way home was pelted with stones from a group of black youths. Last night detectives from the Hate Crimes Taskforce made 4 arrests in connection with the incident.

The suspects, all 14 years old, were on their way home from school when they threw the rocks, which they had prepared in advance, at the bus which was clearly carrying Jewish children. The 14 year olds were all charged with Criminal Mischief, an arrestable offence, in addition they were charged with committing a hate crime for a attacking a Jewish school bus.

Such is the case with Ponte Vedra Beach resident Nochum Kurinsky and his former neighbor, Curtis Long. Kurinsky bought Long’s home last fall. The two men said they are both happy with the deal and are glad things worked out as they did.

Captain Peter Simonetti – New CO of the 71st Pct.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Following yesterday’s report of the departure of Deputy Inspector Frank Vega, CrownHeights.info has just learned that the incoming Commanding Officer is Captain Peter Simonetti of the 72nd Precinct, which oversees the Sun Set Park area of Brooklyn.

Captain Simonetti a has long history with policing in the borough of Brooklyn, starting with his uncle, Tosano “Tony” Simonetti who was the Brooklyn South Commanding Officer, the position which is now held by Chief Jospeh Fox, and quickly worked his way up the ranks all the way to the ‘number 2’ position in the NYPD, the First Deputy Police Commissioner, which he retired from in 1997 to take a lucrative security position with billionaire Ronald Perelman.

Like his uncle, Captain Simonetti shares the same tough attitude and strong approach to the job.

Infinity Production has announced that they are now in the final phase of recording for the release of CD number 3 by Mayer Rivkin. The new CD, entitled “Wake Up Yidden”, will feature 13 Chabad – Lubavitch and other popular Nigunim with the additions of English lyrics, also known as “Camp Songs”. The lyrics that were joined to these melodies, were mostly written and composed, over the years, by staff members of numerous Chabad run overnight camps, known as Camp Gan Israel.

Its Official – CO Vega is Being Transfered

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Its official, the commanding officer of the 71st Precinct, Deputy Inspector Frank Vega is being transferred to Staten Island, where he will be promoted to Inspector.

The transfer, which is said to take in affect this Friday, is officially due to sharp rise in crime in the Borough of Staten Island.

Seeing The Best In Society

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — I’m a big believer in people — generally prone to see the best and the possible instead of the worst. But even I was surprised by the depth of generosity I witnessed today.

Hershey Fellig, an orthodox Jew from Los Angeles, desperately needed a kidney. Marisa Hester, a Christian mother-of-two from Alabama, gave one to him. The two were complete strangers. Marisa had never even met a Jewish person before. She read about Hershey online and made the selfless decision to help.

Five Youths Released Over Beating of Jewish Teen in Paris

Paris prosecutor Jean-Claude Marin confirmed the anti-Semitic character of the aggression.” Anti-Semitic insults – like “dirty Jew” – were shouted during the aggression, he said.

PARIS, France [EJP] — Five youths detained after a Jewish teenager was beaten into a coma by a gang in Paris have been released without charge, AFP reported Wednesday quoting judicial officials.

The minors, aged 14 to 17, were held for questioning as witnesses following Saturday’s attack in the multi-ethnic 19th district of the capital.

Shabbaton Entitled “Wine, Dine, Touch the Divine”

YARDLEY, PA [CHI] — Rabbi Yehuda Shemtov of Yardley, PA recently held a Shabbaton for his community in which over 100 people attended.

The title of the Shabbaton was “Wine, Dine, Touch the Divine”. He brought down a fellow Shliach who has an interesting and very informative wine presentation that combines wine and spirituality.

Video of the Day! – Dedication of a new Torah!

Chabad of Thousand Oaks, California was honored to receive a Torah, generously donated by Rabbi Mordechai and Ethel Bryski in memory of their parents (great-grandparents of Rabbi Chaim Bryski, Rabbi of Chabad of Thousand Oaks), survivors of the Holocaust.

This scroll was rescued from the Holocaust as well, and was painstakingly restored before coming to its permanent home at the Thousand Oaks Jewish Center.
