Hakahel Gathering in Bnos Menachem
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — In honor of shnas hakhel, the students of Bnos Menachem, from pre nursery through 12th grade, held a grand hakhel on the first day of Chanukah. The inspiring program featured the 12 pesukim, a beautiful video, as well as spirited singing and dancing.

Chief of Police Baker Lights the Alexandria City Menorah
ALEXANDRIA, VA — This past Sunday, the annual Chanukah Festival, which was sponsored by Chabad Lubavitch of Alexandria-Arlington, took place in Old Town at J&J Oriental Rug Gallery.
This year’s festival was dedicated to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks, especially Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg, the Chabad emissaries to Mumbai.

Lighting the Menorah in Mumbai
MUMBAI, India [CHI] — In front of the eyes of the world media the delegation to India lit the 5th light of the Chanukah menorah in front of the destroyed Chabad house in an emotional ceremony flowed by the heartwarming singing of Haneiros Halalu.

“Henry Hudson” Historic Menorah in NYS Capital – Playing Draydel on the Assembly Floor
ALABNY, NY [CHI] — Albany’s Maimonides School presented New York State with a historic “Henry Hudson Halfmoon” Menorah they crafted, launching a statewide 400 celebration since the famous explorer discovered the Hudson River in his “Halfmoon” boat in 1609.

Alternate Side Parking Suspended Wednesday & Thursday
Alternate side parking (street cleaning) regulations will be suspended on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, for snow removal. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect. However Thursday, December 25, is a major legal holiday, and parking meter regulations are also suspended. Also on major legal holidays, stopping, standing, and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing, and parking rules are in effect 7 days a week (for example, “No Standing Anytime”).

Update from the Darchai Menachem Auction
BH Its been busy at Yeshiva Darchai Menachem. Every night of Chanukah another drawing with exciting programs have taken place. On Sunday, the first night of Chanukah Darchai Menachem had a menorah competition like never before. Menorahs were built out of all kinds of things you can ever imagine. “Judging the winner this year was pretty tough” says Rabbi Lieder, one of the judges, “all the boys did a wonderful job”.

Chabad Lights The Lamp – 14,277 in Attendance
WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY [CHI] — On the third night of Chanukah The Nassau Coliseum on Long Island witnessed history being made. As the first period of the hockey game, Islanders vs the Thrashers ended. The Zamboni entered the arena followed by a 6 food Menorah.
All in attendance excitedly awaited the entry of the Chabad team led by Rabbi Yossi Lieberman of Chabad of West Hempstead along with his 3 Lamplighters and cantor Joshua Levine.

Chabads of Manhattan’s Chanukah on Ice!
NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — Close to 1000 people took to the ice on Central Park’s Trump Wollman Rink for an evening of Jewish unity on Tuesday, December 23, the third night of Chanukah. Chabad’s Chanukah on Ice NYC drew people from all five boroughs and beyond, to as far way as Hungary, South America, Israel and France.

Groundbreaking of New JRCC of Brighton Beach and Annual Chanukah Dinner
BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — On Sunday, December 21st, the first night of Chanukah, hundreds braved the bitter cold to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new JRCC (Jewish Russian Community Center) that will, G-d willing, be built at the site of the current F.R.E.E. Center/Hebrew Alliance synagogue in Brighton Beach, New York.
