CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Crown Heights’s most known and notorious car thief Terrance (Derrik) Nelson was arrested yesterday after he broke into a car and pulled out a knife on the owner.

DRIVERS BEWARE! TAKE NOTE!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — The intersection of Brooklyn Ave and Lefferts Ave has turned into a big source of income for the City as unsuspecting drivers are continuing to make the right turn from Brooklyn Ave onto Lefferts Ave, which is illegal during the stated hours.

Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM then again between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM it is illegal to make that right turn, regardless if it’s a school day or not.

This past Shabbos, I was touched…

Leaving Erev Shabbos from the country, heading home to Crown Heights and taking precaution with extra traveling time, was the plan…Figuring Woodbury Commons Outlets were only about an hour and half from NY, we decided to stop. Still having enough time to make our way back, we started our journey; a journey that began with complete panic and ended with total appreciation.

Who would have known that traffic on the inbound George Washington Bridge would be so backed up? With no movement in site, we were clearly at a standstill. Our first thoughts; the famous story of our dear uncle, Rabbi Levitansky ob”m, stuck at the gas station the entire Shabbos. We strongly believed that everything would work out. The only differences were; we were traveling with six people (the two of us, our 20 month old twins, newborn baby and sister-in-law) and were headed towards the bridge with no gas station in sight…

For the second year, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has complained about the High Holidays ritual of swinging a chicken over one’s head, a sin transference ceremony.

Hachnosas Safer Torah in Memory of Izzy Woonteiler OBM

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Last year a Lubavitcher Bochur Yisroel (Izzy) Woonteiler was killed in a fatal accident in Los Angeles, California when a pickup truck hit him as he was getting out of his car.

Yesterday, marking his first yahrtzeit his parents Reuven and Basya Wintheiler dedicated a new Sefer Torah in 770 that they had written especially in his memory.

“Operation Summer Brake” Enforcement

ALBANY, NY — The New York State Thruway Authority and State Police Troop T Thursday announced that “Operation Summer Brake” will take place beginning Monday, August 25, 2008 through Friday, August 29.

“As the summer travel season comes to a close, the Authority reminds motorists to drive responsibly and to remain alert and aware of their surroundings,” said Thruway Authority Executive Director Michael Fleischer. “Although everyone is eager to get to their destination, please remember to be cautious while traveling through construction zones, always wear your seat belts, and never drink and drive.”

From August 25 through August 29, Members of State Police Troop T, dedicated solely to conducting speed and aggressive driving enforcement, will be deployed daily along the New York State Thruway.

Joseph Levin didn’t notice the truck in front of him Thursday morning until concrete and dust from the pedestrian bridge over Interstate 690 rained down on his car.

“It was like an explosion,” said Levin, a volunteer EMT from Brooklyn.
