Hachnosas Safer Torah in Memory of Izzy Woonteiler OBM

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Last year a Lubavitcher Bochur Yisroel (Izzy) Woonteiler was killed in a fatal accident in Los Angeles, California when a pickup truck hit him as he was getting out of his car.

Yesterday, marking his first yahrtzeit his parents Reuven and Basya Wintheiler dedicated a new Sefer Torah in 770 that they had written especially in his memory.

At about 2 PM his family and friends gathered at FREE on President St. to complete the last letters in the Safer Torah and from there the marched around the streets Crown Heights to 770 accompanied by live music. Izzy’s friends were seen clutching the torah under the chuppa dancing with tears in the eyes.

It was a very emotional spectacle, and there was not one who didn’t shed a tear at the ceremony. Yisroel’s younger brother David said. “I don’t remember sleeping well even one night since the tragedy,” and burst out crying.
