ALABNY, NY [CHI] — Albany’s Maimonides School presented New York State with a historic “Henry Hudson Halfmoon” Menorah they crafted, launching a statewide 400 celebration since the famous explorer discovered the Hudson River in his “Halfmoon” boat in 1609.

Alternate side parking (street cleaning) regulations will be suspended on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, for snow removal. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect. MUMBAI, India [CHI] — Yesterday, Wednesday, a delegation of Anash and Shluchim traveled to Mumbai, the city which was held by terror for close to 4 days and where six Jews were murdered among them the Shluchim Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg. This Chanukah the mission was to rekindle the light in the face of the terror and destruction.

BH Its been busy at Yeshiva Darchai Menachem. Every night of Chanukah another drawing with exciting programs have taken place. On Sunday, the first night of Chanukah Darchai Menachem had a menorah competition like never before. Menorahs were built out of all kinds of things you can ever imagine. “Judging the winner this year was pretty tough” says Rabbi Lieder, one of the judges, “all the boys did a wonderful job”.
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — The Friendship Circle of Brooklyn hosted a grand Chanukah party for Friendship Circle families, volunteers, and supporters. The children enjoyed many Chanukah crafts and games together with their volunteers.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY [CHI] — On the third night of Chanukah The Nassau Coliseum on Long Island witnessed history being made. As the first period of the hockey game, Islanders vs the Thrashers ended. The Zamboni entered the arena followed by a 6 food Menorah.
All in attendance excitedly awaited the entry of the Chabad team led by Rabbi Yossi Lieberman of Chabad of West Hempstead along with his 3 Lamplighters and cantor Joshua Levine.

NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — Close to 1000 people took to the ice on Central Park’s Trump Wollman Rink for an evening of Jewish unity on Tuesday, December 23, the third night of Chanukah. Chabad’s Chanukah on Ice NYC drew people from all five boroughs and beyond, to as far way as Hungary, South America, Israel and France.

BROOKLYN, NY [CHI] — On Sunday, December 21st, the first night of Chanukah, hundreds braved the bitter cold to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new JRCC (Jewish Russian Community Center) that will, G-d willing, be built at the site of the current F.R.E.E. Center/Hebrew Alliance synagogue in Brighton Beach, New York.

SPRINGFIELD, MA — In a brief, wind-chilled ceremony, the spirit of Hanukkah was celebrated Monday with the annual lighting of the menorah at Court Square.
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Sunday the first night of chanukah a party was held at the Chesed Center, a division of Ahavas Chesed. Lots of Doughnuts, Nosh and Gifts where given out to the kids. Gifts where donated by many people in the community, with over 100 Gifts where donated by the Laniado Family, Mill basin. The fun filled day was topped of with a delicous supper from the soup kitchen.

PORTLAND, ME — It’s not a sight you see very often: a Hasidic rabbi, held aloft by a Portland Fire Department aerial bucket, struggling against near-blizzard conditions to light an oil lamp on a giant menorah.
When, at last, the flame was lit Sunday, stalwart children sang and a round of applause erupted from the small gathering for the 22nd annual lighting of the Grand Hannukah Menorah at Portland City Hall.
