This Sunday, September 21st there will be a Siyum Sefer Torah, This Torah was written in loving memory of Yitzchok Shmuel ben Reb Yehudah and Chanah Brachcah bas Reb Isser Backer OBM

The Siyum will take place at 2:00pm at the Backers home 1404 President Street [between Kingston and Brooklyn Ave.].

Off Duty Police Officer Injured in Crash

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A bad crash left a car on a sidewalk with its driver injured. The incident happened in the intersection of Crown and Schenectady at around 1:00am last night, it appeared that one car struck the other and sent it out of control and onto the sidewalk.

Shomrim members who were in the vicinity heard the sound of the crash nearly two blocks away, and ran over to the scene, arriving a mere seconds after the crash where they discovered that the driver of the car on the sidewalk, a red Honda, was being driven by an off duty NYPD officer who was on her way home for her shift.

Sunday: Siyum Sefer Torah at Bais Shmuel

This Sunday, September 21, Chof Alef Elul, Bais Shmuel Siyum is dedicating a Torah in honor of the life and legacy of The Rebbe. The Torah will be completed at the side courtyard of 770 at 2:00pm, the parade and dancing from 770 to Bais Shmuel will start at 4:00pm and Hakofos will be at 5:00pm.

The kind woman finally turned to the poor man in dismay: “What do you want?” What can I do to make you happy? The beggar pointed to the diamond in her hand: “That’s what I want.”

RIVERSIDE – After sawing and drilling, dozens of young children huffed and puffed and gave their best effort Sunday at making music from animal horns.

The shofar, a traditional Jewish instrument typically made from a ram’s horn, is blown in synagogues during the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Agriprocessors Names New CEO

POSTVILLE, IA [JTA] — Agriprocessors has named a New York attorney as its new chief executive officer.

The hiring of Bernard Feldman of Long Island as the kosher meat producer’s new chief executive keeps the company in the good graces of the Orthodox Union, which said last week it would withdraw its kosher supervision if new management wasn’t hired within two weeks.

PSA: Tonight, Precinct Council Meeting

The monthly meeting of the 71st Precinct Community Board will take place today, Thursday, the 18th of October at 7:30pm, in the public school diagonally across the street from the 71st Precinct, I.S. 61 at 400 Empire Boulevard.
