Off Duty Police Officer Injured in Crash

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A bad crash left a car on a sidewalk with its driver injured. The incident happened in the intersection of Crown and Schenectady at around 1:00am last night, it appeared that one car struck the other and sent it out of control and onto the sidewalk.

Shomrim members who were in the vicinity heard the sound of the crash nearly two blocks away, and ran over to the scene, arriving a mere seconds after the crash where they discovered that the driver of the car on the sidewalk, a red Honda, was being driven by an off duty NYPD officer who was on her way home for her shift.

8 Shomrim member all began assisting, one calling 911 while the other notified Hatzalah who has a ambulance parked up the block, three other jumped into the car and stabilized the driver, securing her neck and back while calming the driver down.

Hatzalah was second to arrive on scene followed by police then FDNY who secured the vehicle, cutting the power from the battery and removed the ‘call box’ which lay in pieces underneath and all around the car.

While stabilizing the driver she gave Shomrim members instructions to call her babysitter and inform her of the accident telling them that all the phone number were in her phone which she could not find.

Hatzalah transported the driver to Kings County, and police began filling out the paperwork, interviewing the Shomrim members about what they saw. Another car which was believed to have been involved in the accident fled the scene.

The unfortunate incident served once again as a great Kiddush Hashem, where both Shomrim and Hatzalah were there in less then a moments notice to treat the victim of the crash.

In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7.

there doesnt seem to be any dent on the back of the car where you claim the off duty police office was hit/sideswiped. perhaps she was overtired from a long shift? maybe she was coming home form a ‘night out’ and inebriated?

from what i saw it looked like the red car was hit in the front left by the other car, forcing it on to the sidewalk.

shomrims instantaneus arrival was impresive, and the way they treated the injured driver was exempelary. they didnt give full medical care, they just stabilized the scene and calming the driver while they waited for EMS.

and this is the reason why all Shomrim members are CPR and First Aid certified. here you see a perfect example where it paid off…

VERY GOOD JOB its great to see these two good organizations working together, making a kidush hashem.

  • I WAS THERE!!!

what hurts me the most is while the shomrim members were working on the police officer, there was a person from shmira namely Yanky Prager who tried to put down shomrim for helping out, by saying different remarks i.e. “all of a sudden shomrim joined Hatzola” then he met up with all his friends up on the corner house porch. and these are the people who care for our community, who at a scene, instead of “helping” they just get in the way

about the comment from anon, not every police officer drinks and since you are so concerned about there not being any damage to the back, the car is sitting outside of the 71st pct for u to view the rear damage of where the other car slammed into the moving car leaving green paint along the rear bumper and side wall. thanks for giving the officer the benefit of the doubt since u were at the accident scene and spoke with her.

a call box is one of various boxes located in a city which have a direct connection to a station and, in case of emergency can be used to notify police about a crime/accident/etc.
