NEW YORK [AP] — New York City's medical examiner warns that proposed budget cuts could threaten Jewish and Muslim burial rites.

Dr. Charles Hirsch says the cuts could hamper his office in its efforts to expedite the burials of observant Jews and Muslims, whose religions call for burials within 24 hours of death.

Pedestrian Struck and Injured on Kingston

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Black woman was struck and injuredby a turning car on the corner of Crown Street and Kingston Avenue. The driver, a young Bochur, stopped his and immediately called 911, while other Bochurim who witnessed the accident called Shomrim and Hatzalah.

NIKOLAYEV, Ukraine [FJC] — The Jewish community of Nikolayev has good cause for celebration, with the announcement that the State Archives of the Nikolayev Region – one of six archival institutions of Ukraine where Torah scrolls were stored – will be returning the 24th of the 25 such scrolls to the Jewish community. The transfer will take place on March 25 and the scroll will be officially transferred to the Jewish community of Nikolayev. It will be received directly by Chief Rabbi of Nikolayev Sholom Gottlieb.

This prayer is recited even by a Kohen or a Levi [despite its seeming relevance only to tribes other than the Tribe of Levi]. [284]

Affectionately known as “Reb Mottel the Shochet,” he spends his days quietly studying, writing, and ... still enjoying herring. Born during the final years of Czar Nicholas II’s reign, Lifshitz not only survived two world wars, the Russian gulag, and Communist rule, but also lived to see his enemies perish.

ASPEN, CO — A group from the Tzerei Chabad of Israel has arranged a skiing trip for wounded veterans of the IDF in Aspen, Colorado. The group is presently flying from Israel to Aspen as guests of the local Chabad House, which is run by Rabbi Mendel Mintz.

Tuesday morning came the sad news of the very untimely passing of Izzy (Itzchak Moshe) Taubenfeld OBM, owner and president of the Jewish music production company ‘Sameach Music’.

Recently, Izzy suffered from Yenem Machalah, which today claimed his life at the young age of 55 leaving behind a family, hundreds of friends and tens of thousands that he inspirited and made happy through the music he produced and promoted. Izzy was described as a man who stopped at nothing to help others and make sure they were happy, and a bright smile never left his face.
