CONEJO, CA [CHI] — On Wednesday evening, June 10th, Chabad of the Conejo marked its 30th anniversary with a gala banquet at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel – a celebration described by many participants as one of the most moving, entertaining and inspirational they’d ever attended.  Entitled “Celebration 30: Gateway to the Future”, the evening was highlighted by poignant tributes, side-splitting comedy, stirring music, an historic dedication and a momentous announcement.

First and foremost, the wedding of Rivkie Ferris to Rabbi Dovid Feld is a great love story.

Ten years ago, at the age of 11, Rivkie was told by her heart that Dovid was going to be her future husband, and it was at that moment — at Dovid’s bar mitzvah — that she decided precisely how she was going to bring about their union: By avoiding him for the next 10 years.

Being a member of Hanhala in a Yeshiva, and involved in Chinuch for a few years in various Yeshivas (ranging from the vocational schools to the so-called “best” yeshivos) I take issue with the topics brought to light in this article (Op-Ed: The Destroyers) and especially the tone in which this was presented.

Since I am a member of Hanhala I must clarify that although I will try as much as possible to be objective, some points may sound biased due to my extensive involvement in the running of a Yeshiva. I am sure that there are exceptions to the rule, and not everything I write applies to 100% of the cases, and once in a while (5% maximum) there is a rotten apple in the bunch which does not fulfill his job to the fullest extent.

As opposed to the previous Op-Ed which is a unsigned Pashkvil, I am not hiding behind a the anonymity of the Internet, my email is: HanhalaMember@gmail.com Anyone who wishes to seriously discuss this issue can contact me and I will identify myself to them.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Sets of similar graffiti tags have been spotted and reported to CrownHeights.info. The graffiti found was laced with anti-Semitic undertones that have residents concerned.

The graffiti consisted of the numbers 187, a Star of David, and sometimes a swastika. A source in the NYPD indicated that the characteristics of this particular ‘tag’ are attributed to the Crips gang, while a similar tag was attributed to the Fame gang.

The Obama administration may have offended a significant number of Israelis by releasing a photo of the President displaying the soles of his shoes, rested atop the Resolute desk while on a call with the Israeli premier. To Middle Easterners, showing the bottom of ones shoes is considered a low insult. Yet, whether or not the President meant any harm or hint in his casual pose, it is certainly insulting to the office of the President to be captured in that position.

Photo Gallery: Crown Heights Welcomes New Torah

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Sunday afternoon, Reb Michoel’s Minyan hosted a Siyum Sefer Torah honoring the life and legacy of Rabbi Michoel Tietelbaum OBM. The writing of the last letters began at Oholei Torah Mesivta, followed by the traditional procession which proceed up Troy Ave onto Crown St where the talmidim of Lubavitcher Yeshiva and Darcha Menachem joined the tahalucha. The parade then proceeded to Kingston Ave to the front of 770, where Hakofos took place.
