The graffiti consisted of the numbers 187, a Star of David, and sometimes a swastika. A source in the NYPD indicated that the characteristics of this particular ‘tag’ are attributed to the Crips gang, while a similar tag was attributed to the Fame gang.
Graffiti Indicates New Gang Activity in Crown Heights
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Sets of similar graffiti tags have been spotted and reported to CrownHeights.info. The graffiti found was laced with anti-Semitic undertones that have residents concerned.
The graffiti consisted of the numbers 187, a Star of David, and sometimes a swastika. A source in the NYPD indicated that the characteristics of this particular ‘tag’ are attributed to the Crips gang, while a similar tag was attributed to the Fame gang.
The number 187 is now in common use by many gangs throughout the United States as a synonym for murder. This usage has been reported among gangs as far away as Florida and Wisconsin.
Other ‘tags’ have been found on vehicles nearby 672 Empire Boulevard, where the first such incident has been reported. Police said they have not received any reports of the graffiti and therefore cannot investigate the matter.
