30 Rabbis Sign Ban Prohibiting Passover Price Gouging

Brooklyn, NY — Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) and Mr. Alexander Rapaport of Masbia Soup Kitchen have joined forces to draft a religious ban prohibiting Passover price gouging in the Orthodox Jewish community. This decree, known as a kol koreh or a public pronouncement, is not a new phenomenon in the religious Jewish community. There is a great deal of precedent in Jewish law for rabbis to issue edicts against monopolies or other situations which are deemed spiritually reckless.

MTA Finance Committee Approves Fare Hike

NEW YORK, NY [NY1] — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority finance committee voted today to approve higher fares for subway, buses and commuter trains, two days ahead of the full board’s vote.

The agency has threatened that unless Albany lawmakers come up with a bailout plan by Wednesday, the fare hikes and service cuts will take effect.

New Round of Car Break-ins

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Over Shabbos two cars were broken into and ransacked. The incidents took place on Carroll Street between Brooklyn and Albany Avenues, and according to the owners it could have happened from when they parked Erev Shabbos till they got to their cars next on Sunday.
