Beit Dagan Victim ID’d as Missing Lod Chabad Activist

Arutz Sheva

ISREAL — It was disclosed Monday that the body found in a relatively advanced state of decay on Friday in an abandoned structure near Beit Dagan in central Israel was that of Rafael (Refoel) Miriashvilli, a 25-year-old Chabad Lubavitch yeshiva student from the city of Lod who had been missing for five weeks. Police say evidence at the scene points to Miriashvilli having been murdered although the circumstances are not clear.

There have been rumors in Chabad circles that he was murdered by Arabs in revenge for his anti-intermarriage efforts. Approximately four years ago, working for the Yad L’Achim anti-assimilation and anti-intermarriage organization, Miriashvilli and two colleagues were charged with kidnapping and impersonating security personnel in the course of saving a Jewish woman from marriage to an Arab.

Rabbi Moshe Greenwald, Downtown, LA

LOS ANGELES, CA — When Patti Berman moved into her sunny loft in downtown Los Angeles, the rough-and-tumble neighborhood was known as skid row. Her building, recently gentrified, was one of only three proper hi-risers in the city’s grim center. Berman’s doorman had to shoo away homeless people from her stoop and sidewalk, so that residents could leave to work each morning.

As the day winds down at coalition headquarters in Kabul and the Friday afternoon sun begins its descent in the Afghanistan sky, a group of Jewish soldiers gathers for a pre-Shabbat infusion of spiritual inspiration.

This past Motzaei Shabbos, Anash and Bochurim of the Melbourne Jewish Community gathered for a Melave Malka at the Rabbinical College of Australia and New Zealand (Yeshivah Gedolah), to celebrate the completion of Maseches Kesubos. The event was arranged in honor of Avrohom Kaminetsky and Shimon Szmerling, who had recited the Shakle V’taria of the entire Masechta Ba’al Peh (as opposed to being spot-checked), in increments of approximately five Blatt.
