When Daniel Popov’s grandmother was a little girl, she was rounded up with her family by the Nazis, and made to wait for a transport. As they were standing in line, the little girl’s mother asked her to get her some water. Strangely, the Nazi officer allowed her out of the line. When she returned, everyone was gone. The entire group had been transported to Zmievskaya Balka, where they were murdered.

Seventy one students of the United Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Crown Heights learned Tanya Ba’al Peh as part of a program begun by Rabbi Mordechai and Mrs. Shterney Kanelsky of the Bris Avrohom Center in Hillside, New Jersey. The Bas Sheva Mitzvah Campaign to Greet Moshiach was launched in loving memory of their beloved daughter, Bat Sheva ob”m, who passed away seven years ago. The fact that there were seventy one students who participated in the program this year at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva is significant because this is the 71st anniversary of the institution in America.

Israel Navy: Gaza Flotilla Activists Tried to Lynch Us

Activists on board a six-ship flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip tried to lynch the Israel Navy commandos who boarded their Turkish-flagged boat early Monday, Israel Defense Forces sources told Haaretz on Monday afternoon. At least nine people were killed and several more were wounded in the fighting that erupted aboard one of the ships.

Woman Sues Google for Being Hit by Car

Google Maps warns computer users that some roads may not have sidewalks. Lauren Rosenberg is suing Google after being hit by a car, claiming that her BlackBerry app did not provide a similar warning.

Park County, CA — Lauren Rosenberg says that the Google Maps BlackBerry application told her to use Deer Valley Drive — a highway also called Utah State Route 224 — to walk from one Park City address to another.

Hecht and Wilhelm Reinstated as Candidates for Vaad

The Bais Din, headed by Rabbi Avrohom B. Rosenberg, has reversed its ruling from last week which disqualified two candidates from running in the elections for Vaad Hakohol. Rabbi Shea Hecht and Rabbi Zalman Wilhelem have been returned to the ballot.

Rabbi Yisroel Bernath leads a popular class on Jewish mysticism at Chabad of NDG in Montreal, Canada’s West End.

If you’re young, hip, Jewish and living in Montreal, you might know Rabbi Yisroel Bernath.

He’s the 27-year-old Chabad-Lubavitch rabbi who makes a point of getting around town and connecting with the mostly young, unaffiliated Jews who call the trendy Monkland Village area home. Since opening in November 2008, his Chabad of NDG – a reference to the neighborhood’s official name on Montreal’s West End – has been packing them in, leading locals to speak in terms of a spiritual revival taking place.

New Zealand Bans Shechita

The New Zealand government has banned kosher slaughter within its borders, according to a new law that is to immediately take effect. The law requires stunning before slaughter, despite the known fact that the severing of the carotid artery and trachea causes immediate loss of consciousness. Arutz Sheva reports that these measure were taken by Agriculture Minister, David Carter against the advice of his advisors.
