To’eiva Marriage Now Legal in New York

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo

Toeiva marriage is legal in New York State. Governor Cuomo, a strong proponent of “equality,” stalwartly pursued its passage, making it his signature legislative achievement. Unlike Assemblyman Dov Hikind’s false assumptions that the New York Assembly doesn’t have the votes, it passed the Democratic-led Assembly by a large margin, and the Republican-led Senate didn’t do anything to stop the bill. The bill still faces many hurdles, and we should not yet surrender; however, as the headlines proclaimed, New York now became the beacon of darkness for the entire nation regarding this matter.

It may be difficult to fathom those four National League Pennants, two World Series titles and millions of head-aches that have since passed when Casey Stengel managed the club that couldn’t pitch precisely, mesmerizing fans at the Polo Grounds with its ineptitude on the base-path and on-target throwing failures.

Barber Family Dedicates Sefer Torah

This past Wednesday, Anash of Crown Heights celebrated the Siyum of a Sefer Torah written by Reb Avrohom Barber. The Torah was written L’Zecher Nishmas his father; Hakodosh R. Eliyahu ben R. Yakov Barber, his Mother M’ Itta bas R. Naftali Isser Halevi, and his brother R. Dov Ber ben R. Eliyahu Barber.

The traditionally less-violent Brooklyn South patrol borough - comprised of 13 police precincts - is the only command in the city to report a spike in shootings so far this year. There were 103 shootings in Brooklyn South - especially in neighborhoods such as East Flatbush, Crown Heights and Coney Island - up from 82 at this time last year.
