Rabbinical Centre of Europe Meets with the President of Albania.

The European Parliament hosted a somewhat different group of men in suits last week, when over 100 European rabbis attended discussions under the banner “Is Multiculturalism Sustainable in 21st-Century Europe?” The talks were part of a two-day conference marking the 10th anniversary of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe (RCE), an organization representing over 700 European rabbis. In attendance were also Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Yona Metzger and Religious Affairs Minister Ya’acov Margi.

How Far to Help a Friend?

Three rabbinical students set off on a cross-country bike ride on Sunday morning, the first part of their journey a testament to the true meaning of friendship. On the track of Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy in Livingston, 100 special needs cyclists joined them to raise awareness for the Friendship Circle.

Eat Some Fat!

Over the past 40 years, the “public enemy number one” of food has been fat. We spend billions of dollars per year on low-fat foods, fake-fat chips, pills that block the absorption of fat into the digestive system, and all types of specials diets and cookbooks. And, in the past 30 years, we have reduced the amount of fat in our diet by 34% on average. The problem is, we aren’t any thinner or healthier for all this effort. Actually, we are larger and unhealthier than ever. One reasons for this is that there are some fats that are good for you, but we are not including them in our diet.

With a team hard at work for nearly two years on the project, the central educational office of Chabad-Lubavitch is about to launch a new educational computer software program that, according to Rabbi Nochem Kaplan, could well transform the face of the Jewish day school system in the United States, if not the entire world. By streamlining the way teachers impart Judaic studies and Hebrew language content to their students, explains the veteran educator, the program opens up a variety of opportunities for tailoring a curriculum to each individual student.

To’eiva Marriage Now Legal in New York

Toeiva marriage is legal in New York State. Governor Cuomo, a strong proponent of “equality,” stalwartly pursued its passage, making it his signature legislative achievement. Unlike Assemblyman Dov Hikind’s false assumptions that the New York Assembly doesn’t have the votes, it passed the Democratic-led Assembly by a large margin, and the Republican-led Senate didn’t do anything to stop the bill. The bill still faces many hurdles, and we should not yet surrender; however, as the headlines proclaimed, New York now became the beacon of darkness for the entire nation regarding this matter.

It may be difficult to fathom those four National League Pennants, two World Series titles and millions of head-aches that have since passed when Casey Stengel managed the club that couldn’t pitch precisely, mesmerizing fans at the Polo Grounds with its ineptitude on the base-path and on-target throwing failures.
