A Chabad Rabbi who Led Sephardic Congregations
Rabbi Abraham Hecht, a Chabad-Lubavitch rabbi who served as the spiritual leader of Sephardic congregations in North America for more than 65 years, passed away Saturday night at the age of 90. For many years he the was vice president of the Sephardic Rabbinical Council, president of Rabbinical Council for Syrian Jewry in North America, and president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America. Beloved by his congregants, he built Congregation Shaare Zion in Brooklyn, N.Y., into the largest Sephardic congregation in North America.
Russia, U.S. Fight Over Stolen Chabad Manuscripts
MOSCOW — Russia on Thursday harshly criticized a U.S. court ruling fining it $50,000 a day for holding onto tens of thousands of religious books and manuscripts stolen from Jews during the Russian revolution and World War II.

Judge Orders Daily Fine on Russia, Despite Justice Dept. Opposition
A federal judge has just ordered a daily fine of $50,000 on Russia so long as the library, which contains thousands of seforim and manuscripts from the previous Chabad Rabeiim, is not returned. The Obama administration – through the state department – had voiced their objection to such action fearful it would harm the U.S./Russian relationship.
