Letter: Planning our Family
While visiting my ailing mom in Brooklyn, just a few months before her untimely passing, I shared with her the exciting news that Chavie and I were going to adopt a second baby. She pondered the idea that we’d have adoptive Irish twins, thirteen months apart, and after a few moments, she gave me her loving motherly look and asked “Why so quick? What’s the rush”? I’m still uncertain where my answer came from, perhaps directly from my soul: “Mom”, I said, “I thought we don’t believe in family planning!”. She smiled, accepted it, and shared my witty comeback with whoever would listen.

A group of students from Texas A&M, State University and Rice University are in New York City to participate in the Jewfest Shabbaton, Chabad on Campus’ annual convention. As they toured Manhattan on Friday, they bumped into four sailors who were giving out floral bouquets in honor of Veteran’s day. The group thanked the sailors for their service, and discovered that one of the sailors had a Jewish maternal grandmother. They proceeded to help him put on Tefillin for the first time in his life, and danced together to celebrate.
Swastikas Scrawled on Crown Heights Sidewalk
A CrownHeights.info reader submitted photos of a Swastika that was spray-painted on a sidewalk on a block predominantly populated by Jewish residents, located just around the corner from the 71st Police Precinct. Police are now investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Mishna with Commentaries Translated into Russian
This week Russian Jewry merited to celebrate an important milestone. The entire six tractates of Mishna have been translated into Russian along with many different commentaries and explanations, which will make it easier to learn for Russian speaking Jews all over the world.
