Crown Heights’s oldest Porch Minyan, “Ohel Benish” located at 1472 President, will be opening for the community tonight for Tikun Leil Shavuos. A separate porch with a Mechitza will be provided for women as well.
It is the custom of the Rebbe before Shavuos to bless all Jews to receive the Torah B’simcha U’b’pnimiyous. Many expressed their understanding of what the two terms mean or refer to, and I would like to offer an additional perspective based on the following story.
Rabbi Aharon Yaakov Schwei served in many positions throughout his life, including as a teacher, summer-camp rabbi and serving on the rabbinic court of the Crown Heights Jewish community in Brooklyn, N.Y. He passed away on April 24th, during the COVID-19 pandemic, after contracting the virus.
