Photos: Israeli Leaders Make Special Sukkot Blessings

Kfar Chabad Mayor Rabbi Yami Lifshitz gave Israeli President Shimon Peres a set of the Four Species to make a special blessing in the presidential sukkah in Jerusalem.

Chabad-Lubavitch representatives in Israel brought holiday cheer to the country’s leading governmental figures, giving leaders from across the political spectrum the chance to make a special blessing on a combination of a palm branch, willow branches, myrtle twigs and a citron – collectively known as the Four Species.

Chabad of WWU Buys Space Closer to Students

Chabad Jewish Center of Whatcom County has bought the building that housed the Shalom Center at Western Washington University. The $880,000 purchase closed Wednesday, Oct. 5. The building at 102 Highland Drive had been owned by Campus Christian Ministries.

Crown Heights and Boro Park Shomrim had a really busy day Monday; together, they both successfully handled five missing person incidents. From an intoxicated 15-year-old who vanished in Crown Heights, to a 3-year-old child who wandered away from her parents on a the Coney Island boardwalk.

In exchange for Gilad Shalit’s release, Israel is freeing 1,027 Palestinian security prisoners. The first 477, agreed upon with Hamas, were released Tuesday. Most had been serving life sentences for their roles in attacks against Israelis, and they included the organizers or perpetrators of many of the most infamous terrorist attacks against Israelis over the past several decades.
