Leaders of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council met with Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, City Council Member Letitia James, and representatives from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to discuss actions being taken to combat the recent wave of crimes in the area.

Reacting to a series of muggings and assaults where local residents have been brutally attacked by roving gangs, District Attorney Hynes gave his assurance that he will work with the community and the police to keep track of all incidents and to prosecute those caught to the fullest extent of the law. Mr. Hynes also presented certificates of honor to two local residents who helped the NYPD arrest three of the recent attackers who assaulted a young man on his way home from synagogue on the night of Yom Kippur.

Over 3000 People Join Chabad Of The Conejo For Yom Kippur At 3 Locations – Hyatt Hotel Turns To “Little Jerusalem”

Once again, every boardroom, conference room, and ballroom was used to facilitate the overwhelming turnout for Chabad of the Conejo’s Yom Kippur Service at the luxuries Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel in Southern California. The huge Grand Ballroom was filled to capacity for Kol Nidre, Yizkor and Neilah. The hotel sold out every guest room to the 600 people spending the whole Yom Kippur at the hotel. After Kol Nidre and Maariv, the hotel lobbies, corridors, lounge areas, etc. were filled with Jews late into the night. Many commented how the upscale hotel was transformed into a “little Jerusalem”.

Several years ago there was a picture floating around of Shliach Rabbi Yossi Turk of Cordoba Argentina delivering s'chach on a horse and boggy. This picture became very popular recently with local s'chach merchants using it for their ads. Today, CrownHeights.Info reconfirmed that this same horse still continues to deliver s'chach once again through the streets of Cordoba.

Several years ago there was a picture floating around of Shliach Rabbi Yossi Turk of Cordoba Argentina delivering s’chach on a horse and boggy. This picture became very popular recently with local s’chach merchants using it for their ads. Today, CrownHeights.Info reconfirmed that this same horse still continues to deliver s’chach once again through the streets of Cordoba.

At 6:00pm Wednesday the sidewalk in front of 770 filled up with residents fed up with the sharp crime increase in general and the increase in biased violent assaults. Three weeks ago a Bochur was smashed in the face with a baseball bat, and then on the night of Yom Kippur a 16 year old Bochur was violently beaten by a group of 7 Black Youths.

Residents fed up with this increase in crime and the police’s disregard for the situation and hiding behind the ‘compstat’ numbers saying that crime is actually declining. One of the members of the community that got up to speak and yelled that ‘we are fed up of police reports being swept under the rug’.

Monroe, NJ — Jacob Roitman swings the hammer down hard on a bamboo reed. Standing atop a metal ladder, he pauses to steady himself, then takes four quick thwacks at the nail. The bamboo bends from the strain.

Roitman, 60, of East Brunswick was building a hut, called a sukkah, that is central to the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

“It's a mitzvah (good deed),” he said, working under a cloudless autumn sky.

Beginning Friday, Sukkot marks seven days of feasts and togetherness. The sukkah, a temporary structure, recalls the kind of hut Jews lived in during the biblical 40 years they wandered in the desert. It also has deeper significance.

Two mobile command posts have been set up one on Schenectady between Carroll and Crown and the other on the corner of Crown and Albany, officers posted on many street corners and officers walking up and down Kingston Ave. by day as well as the night.

We implore the 71st precinct to keep these officers out there till at least 5am each morning, as many of the posts are abandoned around 3am. These are good crime prevention measures, lets keep them up!

Still we urge residents to take extra care when out there, stay alert if you hear or see something don’t hesitate to call Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 and 911.

On Tuesday night, Rabbi Michoel Seligson farbrenged with hundreds of bochurim who are here for the month of Tishrei. The Farbrengen was part of the “Vaad Tmimim Haolomi” program for the month of Tishrei.

The Farbrengen consisted of two parts: 1) Research background on the Hayom Yom. 2) Sukkos through Simchas Torah by the Rebbe.

Rabbi Seligson described in detail the research he did on the Hayom Yom, discovering that the Hayom Yom quotes for the day reflects the Shiurei Chitas of the day. After further research, it was revealed that the Hayom Yom quotes reflect the 70 years of a person (until 120).

NYPD Deploy New Watch Tower on Carroll and Troy

The device is called ‘Sky Watch’ and is designed to give an officer a line of sight from above of over 20ft. the tower is equipped with 4 thermal sensitive cameras, a high power spot light and various sensors all around. Its primary application is intended for crowd management and other parking lot type enforcement, giving police the ability to see in between cars and removing those blind spots.

The tower was deployed by officers from the Emergency Services Unit [ESU] whose specialty is such specialized systems.

The sky watch is made by a company called ‘ICX New Heights’ whose specialty is such towers for all type of applications. For more information Click Here.

Former OC Ground Forces Maj.-Gen. Yiftah Ron-Tal, who was discharged from the army by Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz on Wednesday night, said Thursday morning that he was not interested in becoming a politician.

Speculations arose that Ron-Tal would join the Likud Party after he held a meeting last week with Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu. Ron-Tal dismissed the claims however, saying it was a random meeting.

Ron-Tal, speaking to Israel Radio, blasted Halutz's decision to fire him, saying, “it is worthy of the Chief of Staff to first and foremost demand from himself what he so passionately demands from others, especially when lives and the security of the nation are at stake.”

Sukkos – Working for Others

Everyone is busy, building sukkahs, purchasing lulovim sets, shopping for food, and the list goes on.. the neighborhood is just hectic; everyone’s preparing themselves for Sukkos. Try walking up Kingston Ave? the place is over-crowded with vendors selling esrogim. Walk to the right and then to the left, to try and avoid them and you end up bumping into a sukkah, parked outside a Sukkah store, they’re all tied up with their big preps for Sukkos.

One group however is making big Sukkos preps, not for themselves, rather, for others. Moshe C. one of the Sukkah Mobile organizers says they ‎’re in their final preps and only hours away from confirming the final vehicles. Although they may have slightly fewer vehicles on the road this Sukkos, word in their offices is that there are some big surprises coming this Sukkos, but no further details were released.
