Alternate side parking regulations suspended

Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended on Monday, May 29 for the observance of Memorial Day. Because Memorial Day is a major legal holiday, parking meter regulations will also be suspended.

On major legal holidays, stopping, standing, and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing, and parking rules are in effect 7 days a week (for example, “No Standing Anytime”).

Chabad couple is busy ‘repackaging’ Judaism

Fights here, Fights there, Fights everywhere!

Chris McKenna – Times Herald-Record

Monroe, NY — They aren’t asking people to become Orthodox Jews like themselves. For that matter, they don’t like separating members of a common faith into the usual Orthodox, Conservative and Reform camps.

Pesach and Chana Burston just want to produce better Jews.

The Burstons arrived in Orange County two years ago as emissaries of a Hasidic movement known as Chabad-Lubavitch, based in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.

Burglar To Get 5 To 9 Years in Prison

As we have reported 2 weeks ago about a burglar that broke into a building on Union St. and assaulted one of the tenants, we have recently learned that he had gotten a plea bargain which will get him 5 to 9 years in prison, probably the harsher 9 years due to his extensive criminal record.

It is important to note that this criminal had just been released 2 months ago from serving a 12 year jail sentence for assault and robbery as well.

Part Of a Tree Collapses Over Shabbos

Sometime during Shabbos a large part of a tree came crashing down on Carroll St. between Brooklyn and Kingston, the part of the tree blocked off the sidewalk and B”H didn’t injure anyone and did not cause any damage to parked cars. Apparently this collapse was due to the rain we had over Shabbos.

Stolen Phone Makes Its Way Back To Owner

Three weeks ago a member of the community had his car window broken into and his cell phone stolen from the glove compartment. He filed a police report, and went to the Cingular store on Kingston Ave, and asked the manger to call him if his phone makes its way there.

This past Friday a black male brought that above mentioned cell phone into the Cingular store asking to buy a charger and to sign up for service. The manager upon recognizing the cell phone, called the owner asking him to come down to the store to confirm that it was his phone. Needing to buy time until the owner arrived to identify the phone, the manager told the customer that “we need to wait for the phone to be fully charged and ensure its working properly, before we can sign you up for service” .

When the owner arrived he identified the phone as being his, and in turn the police were called. The police arrived on the scene and spoke to the man who claimed he bought the phone from a guy on Kingston & Fulton and knew it was stolen. The cop asked him if he was aware that he can get arrested for doing so, to which he replied “yes”. The cops then let him go, and returned the phone to its owner.
