Burglar To Get 5 To 9 Years in Prison
As we have reported 2 weeks ago about a burglar that broke into a building on Union St. and assaulted one of the tenants, we have recently learned that he had gotten a plea bargain which will get him 5 to 9 years in prison, probably the harsher 9 years due to his extensive criminal record.
It is important to note that this criminal had just been released 2 months ago from serving a 12 year jail sentence for assault and robbery as well.
Mean Joke
5 to 9 years in a plea bargain = 9 minus 5 or negative 4 years in prison for good behavior. Our legal system is a mean joke.

Please follow up with another update in 5 to 9 years, or whenever he gets out, so that we can be ready for him the next time he tries it.

How does one spend "negative 4 years in prison"? Are they letting him out 4 years ago for this crime?

Actually, 5 to 9 means precisely what it says. Normally, a criminal in NY can get out in 1/3 of the maximum of an "indeterminate" sentence. And 1/3 of 9 is 3. But he has to serve at least five years to be eligible for parole, hence "5 to 9".
