Pesach in the Former Soviet Union: Largest Humanitarian Project Ever

In honor of the upcoming festival of Passover – the holiday that for generations has symbolized the Jewish longing for freedom and redemption – the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS (FJC), under the leadership of Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, sponsored by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), headed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, has launched one of the most astonishing and complex humanitarian aid projects ever.

Ukraine Matzah Bakery Continues Its Unique Legacy

At the state-of-the-art Tiferes Hamatzos bakery in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, matzahs are hand-rolled and baked under strict rabbinical supervision. In this eastern Ukrainian city—the country’s fourth-largest, and historically one of its most Jewish—the crisp, round matzahs are carefully packaged and then shipped throughout Ukraine. But Dnepropetrovsk’s matzah output goes far beyond Ukraine’s redrawn borders; the bakery annually produces more than 70 tons of the crunchy unleavened bread, much of which is sent abroad and made available to consumers in Europe, the Americas and even Israel.

1,000 Berlin Families Receive Aid for Pesach

The Chabad Jewish Educational Center in Berlin prepared around 1,000 Pesach packages, with Matzah, kosher wine, gefilte fish, vegetables and other foods for the holiday. These packages were shared with those families which due to their financial situation could not afford celebrating Pesach properly.

2,500 Attend ‘Kosherfest’ in Berlin

Berlin experienced an unforgettable day of Jewish pride and awareness on Sunday, March 15th. It was difficult to recognize the halls of the Intercontinental Hotel of Berlin. Hundreds of women and children gathered for a tremendous event taking place in Berlin for the first time – a Mega Challah Bake.
