Brazilian City Awards Shliach ‘Diploma of Honor’

The founder of Chabad Lubavitch of Porto Alegre, Brazil, Rabbi Mendel Liberow, was honored on Tuesday, April 3 at the City Hall. By proposal of Assemblyman Adeli Sell, Rabbi Liberow received the diploma of Honor during the occasion, which is directed by the Legislative President of the Capital, Assemblyman Mauro Zacher.

His Congregation has 120 members.

Fundraising Seminars Enlighten Future Shluchim

Merkos Suite 302’s Machon L’Shlichus launched a new seminar series last week to bring fundraising training to kollel yungeleit. Attended by about 20 participants, the pilot program, which was held in four parts last Sunday through Wednesday, aimed to give participants early preparations for fundraising tactics and challenges before going out on shlichus.

Amy Tarshis was wandering through the streets of Old S. Juan in January when she saw a man with a skullcap and a beard. With just three hours until her plane, she decided to add a new dimension to her Puerto Rico birthday trip, and approached him for a blessing. She wound up around the corner at the soon-to-be-open Jewish welcome center, talking about both her travels and the new center, where visitors could study a bit of Torah, pray, charge their cell phones, check their email, have some water and relax.
