As thousands of Jewish soldiers put their lives on the line storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6th, 1944, many thousands more flocked to Shuls across the United States to pray for their relatives and friends. This photo, taken on D-Day and make available through the Library of Congress, shows a Manhattan Shul holding all day prayers. The shul is now the home of the Chabad of Chelsea.
New York City Council Member Rita Joseph sat with Rabbi Yaacov Behrman and members of the Crown Heights community over recurring electrical fires that have been plaguing Crown Heights each year. Rabbi Chesky Tenenbaum, Director of Jewish Uniformed Service Association of MD (JUSA), stood at the podium Monday to give the prayer at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony. Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, the secretary to the Rebbe for a period of 40 years and Chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch and Machneh Israel, concluded his trip to Eretz Yisroel yesterday with a visit to Tzfas, where he davened at the resting place of the Rebbe’s brother, Reb Yisrael Aryeh Leib, marking the 70th anniversary of his passing, on 13 Iyar 5712.
