With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Sholom Mendel Kalmenson of Aubervilliers, France. He was one of the first shluchim of the Rebbe; he started his shlichus in 1963 and founded a school called ‘Schneor.’ With his continued effort, devotion and dedication, Aubervilliers has become a blossoming jewish community. The school currently has about 500 students.
With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Rav Ovadia ben Shalom Gochafi, chief Rabbi of Ramat Gan, Israel. Rav Ovadia was a great Talmid Chacham who got his Smicha at a very young age, and came from a lineage of prominent Rabbanim, Poskim, and Talmedai Chachamim.
With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Meir Halberstam of Bnei Brak, at the age of 85. Rabbi Halberstam is survived by his two sons: Rabbis Chaim Boruch and Chesed Halberstam of Crown Heights. He was the grandfather of terrorism victim Ari Halberstam HYD.

Rabbi Leiberman in survived by his children – yibodlu l’chaim tovim – Rabbi Chaim Meir Lieberman (Crown Heights), Rabbi Aron Lieberman (Lauderhill, FL), Rabbi Yaakov Leiberman (Kfar Chabad, Israel), and Tirtza Schapiro (Miami Beach, FL).
HaGaon HaRav Menachem Mendel Mendelson ZT”L, the Rav of Komomiyut, Israel for the past 33 years, was niftar today, 27 Cheshvan, 5772. The Rav was a dear and close friend of Lubavitch, particularly close with Rabbi Moshe Havlin of Kiryat Gat, and participated in many Lubavitcher events.
In the above video clip, Rabbi Mendelson tells the Rebbe that the Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat is in need of financial help. The Rebbe tells him to find 2 more Rabbis (anyone with smicha) and pasken that they should get money. Rabbi Mendelson did what the Rebbe suggested, and since then the Kiryat Gat Yeshiva has been doing well financially!

With sadness we inform you of the sudden passing of Mrs. Bassie Azimov OBM, wife of Rabbi Shmuel Azimov, Shliach to Paris. Mrs. Azimov stood at the helm of Beis Chaya Mushka and brought thousands closer to yiddishkiet together with her husband.

With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Harav HaChossid Rabbi Sholom Dovber Goldshmid, OBM, of Crown Heights, 86. Reb Sholom Dovber survived the Chevron Massacre in 1929. Arriving in New York, he opened a butcher shop in Crown Heights and was zoche to be the one supplying the Rebbe’s household with meat. He was also zoche to drive the Rebbe home from 770 many times until his marriage in 1951.
