Two young rabbis will visit South Dakota next week. Their goal is to visit the smaller Jewish communities around the state, increasing awareness of and passion for that faith.
In 1943, in the town of Gutschein, Germany, the Luria family welcomed their firstborn son into the world with tremendous joy.
A pair of young roving rabbis are visiting Warrnambool to reconnect isolated Jews to their roots and heritage this week.
This is a story about how I found my own tribe after passing through many different tribal territories. Or, perhaps more accurately, how my tribe found me.
Some 400 bochurim heading out on Merkos Shlichus this summer gathered in the Jewish Children Museum Thursday for an afternoon of guidance and inspiration.
In a beach store crowded with shoppers in flip-flops, shorts and bathing suits, Levi Mentz and Hershy Lasry stand out.
How do you prepare hundreds of Yeshiva Buchrim to leave their homes and set up the largest network of Passover sedorim in 82 countries around the world?
Merkos Shlichus preparations for Pesach 5772 are currently in full gear. Following two days of non-stop interviews with Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky and those who applied, the Merkos Shlichus vaad has been working non-stop to assign the applicants to their Seder locations. So far, over 550 student Rabbis have been volunteered to lead sedorim in over 190 cities all over the world.
A special full-day Yom Iyun was hosted by the Vaad Talmidei Hatmimim for Bochurim as they take leave for the upcoming year on Shlichus to Chabad Yeshivos worldwide, held in Congregation B’nei Jacob – Chabad of Park Slope, NY.
Sunday evening, Isru Chag Sukkos, Oholei Torah held their annual Tzeischem L’sholom for the 126 Talmidei Hashluchim who will be going to communities around the world.
Divine Providence and a hurricane led two Bochurim Dovid Kotlarsky and Yehoshua Greenspan who aer out on Merkos Shlichus to a chance meeting with Mike Eman, the Prime Minister of Aruba.
“If you are looking for Jewish people, you have to meet Joanie on the next island,” a resident of Bocas del Toro exclaimed with excitement. “She has become the source of everything Jewish in this area.” Jumping into a water taxi, we made our way to Caremero, the next island over. At Caremero, we began walking around the exotic island to find the Jewish people we had come to visit.
As dedicated Roving Rabbis we continuously look out for Jewish people and see how we could be of assistance for anything Jewish they need. Throughout our journeys we have had many inspirational episodes. The following is one of our most amazing experiences:
This past week, eight Bochurim were flown down to Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the Merkos Shlichus program to run Peulos by the different Shluchim in the area. They were split up between the different Chabad Centers in the area including the central area of Las Vegas, Summerlin, Green Valley and Chabad @ UNLV.
A man at a gas station eagerly came up to Eli Tsvik one recent afternoon and, pointing to his tattoos, said, “I’m a bad Jew.”
We were in Bar, Montenegro. The meeting started like any other. Jasa invited us in, and we spoke for over an hour.
“So how about we put on tefillin?” I asked. He gladly accepted.
