During the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries, rabbis and guests from around the world came to Crown Heights, Brooklyn for a chance to improve their craft, reconnect with old friends and gain inspiration for the year to come.
The New York Post today profiled Rabbi Ovadia Isakov, the Shliach who was shot and seriously wounded in the Russian region of Dagestan last July by suspected Muslim extremists. Rabbi Isakov attended the Kinus Hashluchim grand banquet on Sunday, where he was honored with reading the Rebbe’s Kapital.
Among the thousands of Chabad emissaries and lay leaders attending this year’s Kinus Hashluchim grand banquet was someone whose presence raised the eyebrows of those who noticed him. Rabbi Rick Jacobs, leader of the Union for Reform Judaism, attended the banquet as a personal guest of Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky.
While their fathers attended the grand Kinus Hashluchim banquet in Brooklyn’s Marine Terminal, hundreds of junior Shluchim gathered in the Beis Rivkah ballroom for a grand banquet of their own.
Channeling the awesome energy from the Banquet, Shluchim and their lay leaders made their way back to 770 and sat down for the – what has become – traditional Farbrengen.

In an enormous shipping terminal-turned-ballroom at the mouth of the east river in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, over five thousand people sat down to an evening of elevation, inspiration and tribute – the annual International Conference of Chabad Emissaries.
Over 5,000 Shluchim and their guests will convene at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, one of the largest shipping terminals in New York City, for the Grand Gala Banquet that will conclude the annual International Conference of Chabad Emissaries. While their fathers participate in the International Kinus Hashluchim, the ‘Tzeirai Hashluchim’ have a program of their own, from which they draw inspiration from their counselors and peers – who are on Shlichus as well. One of the highlights of the annual Kinus Hashluchim is the group portrait of all Shluchim taken each year, with the Rebbe’s encouragement, in front of 770. As it is each year, this year’s picture was larger than ever!
While fitting all the Shluchim into one photo is quite the accomplishment, it is easy to forget that it’s the individual faces which make up the bigger picture.
