Cleaning 770 for pesach

Chabadnik.com

Yesterday the maintenance staff of 770 in Crown Heights started cleaning the Shul for Pesach, moving all the benches and tables outside and going through every crack to make sure there is no Chometz.

Get ready for that time of year again when we get barred from the Shul and we all have to Daven outside and upstairs, hopefully we will at least have warm weather.

Yankel [Rosenbaum] Kin Target Hospital

Fourteen tumultuous years have done little to heal the hurt of Fay Rosenbaum, whose son Yankel was stabbed to death in a 1991 race riot that came to symbolize a dark and angry period in the city’s history.

Rosenbaum’s family, including the 71-year-old matriarch, is back in the city from Australia, once again seeking justice in the Hasidic scholar’s death. This time, they want to show that Yankel Rosenbaum got shoddy treatment from city doctors after Lemrick Nelson left him dying on a Crown Heights street.

“I don’t forgive and I don’t forget,” Fay, 71, told the Daily News in an exclusive interview Wednesday, just before the Brooklyn Supreme Court judge hearing the family’s civil case against the city issued a gag order.

Students show off awesome knowledge at International mitzvah contest in Florida

COL.ORG.IL

The highlight of the Sefer Hamitsvos Contest weekend of Tsivos Hashem was the competition’s grand finale on Sunday. The awesome event was hosted by the Lubavitch Educational Center at the Deauville Beach Resort . In front of a crowd of more than 1,000, the boys competed in a fast-paced “game-show style” quiz — a full-scale multimedia production, complete with computer-generated question boards, flashing lights, buzzers, sound effects and music. “The children’s grasp of the material was simply astounding,” says Rabbi Sholom Ber Baumgarten, Tzivos Hashem Director. “Within seconds, the children answered questions from memory that many scholars and even rabbis couldn’t answer without consulting a source.” In between the two rounds of the game show and after the second round, the audience was treated to live concert by chassidic super star Avrohom Fried. It was not your regular concert! The dancing and enthusiasm in the room was palpable.

Rabbi Yerachmiel Benjaminson, executive director of Tzivos Hashem said it was a most worthwhile investment for what these boys have accomplished is priceless. However, these children are really representing the more than 4,000 students from across the world who took part in the program, which was initiated as a means of fulfilling the Rebbe’s wish that every man, woman, and child learn the Rambam’s magnum opus Mishneh Torah or the more abbreviated Sefer HaMitzvos, which explain all of the 613 mitzvahs.

New fund will enable Anash to help Shluchim

Keren Yaakov Moshe was established last year in memory of HaRav Yaakov Moshe HaKohen Friedman, z’l. Who in Crown Heights has not been witness to his countless acts of kindness on a daily basis at home, in shul or even on “Rabbi Friedman’s line” in the bank? His legendary kindness and compassion began when he was a young man in war-torn Europe, where, with real mesiras nefesh and heroism, he enabled thousands of Jews to emigrate to freedom. It was therefore fitting for the family to establish a gemach to perpetuate the chessed of this “sar hachesed”.

Now, in honor of the first Yahrzeit on 10 Nissan, SNS has learned that the family has established a new and innovative fund. Yad L’Shliach will make it incredibly easy for all Anash to help Shluchim in an ongoing and meaningful way.

“Imagine if thousands of Anash, young and old, would contribute monthly,” said Avremel Friedman (Fried), one of the fund’s founders (and its first contributor) “That will translate into so many gifts and be mechayeh so many Shluchim.”

The fund hopes to send the first checks to Shluchim on the Yahrzeit in two weeks, according to Yad L’Shliach’s organizer Rabbi Shlomo Friedman.

Sunday Dollars Continues

On Sunday 23 Adar II, April 3, 2005, dollars were once again distributed in 770.

According to reports, Gabbai Zalman Lipsker had hired a few Yungerleit to chase away the people in charge of the Dollars. At first, the two doors leading into the front hallway were locked and no one could enter it, so no one arrived to give out any dollars.

In order to prevent altercations, the Sefadi students had decided to hand out the dollars on the front lawn of 770.

However, an unforeseen development arose: The students wrote to the igros, which directed them in no uncertain terms, not to alter the place of the dollar distribution under any circumstances. With such a clear and definitive directive, the stalwart soldiers had no choice but to stand up to the powers-that-be and act.

At 2:50 PM, with the other students at lunch break, the Sefadi contingent managed to break through the door between the upstairs Shul and the front hallway. They placed a table with a blue cushion, sang yechi, and gave out dollars for a few minutes. About 10 Sefadi students participated.
