Twenty Five Years of Pirsumei Nisa in Moscow

This is the twenty fifth year in a row that the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, lit the Chanuka candles in Moscow’s Red Square, and every year he feels the same surge of excitement as he pronounces the words “she’asa nissim la’avoseynu bayamim hahem bizman hazeh.” When the crowd roars “amen” in reply, the words echo and reverberate off of the Kremlin fortress.

Chanukah History Made in Paddington

History was made today in the suburb of Paddington in Sydney, Australia. Since its establishment in the mid-1800s, there has never been a public Menorah lighting in the suburb. Today, the first day of Chanukah, CBD-Chabad hosted Paddington’s first ever Public Menorah Lighting, with some 50 members of the Sydney Jewish community in attendance.

30 Years Ago Today: A Special Chanukah in DC

Thirty years ago, on December 22, 1986 – 20 Kislev, 5747, President Ronald Reagan received a delegation of Chabad Rabbis in the Oval Office in honor of Chanukah. Led by Rabbi Avraham Shemtov of American Friends of Lubavitch, the Shluchim from across the United States presented the President with a special Menorah.
