Bochurim Visit Chabad Moisdos in South Florida

Packed is the one word to describe the third and final day of the beautiful Kinnus Talmidei Hashluchim Hamerkazi. After Davening and a delicious filling breakfast the day began with the Shluchim boarding two air conditioned (remember were in Florida) coach buses and heading to Coconut Grove. Rabbi Yankee Fellig addressed the Shluchim elaborating on the idea that it is integral for a Bochur to use out his time in Yeshiva to learn seriously, emphasizing the point of learning with a depth. He than proceeded to relate some entertaining stories about his experiences in Coconut Grove specifically about the transformation of his Shul from its previous state.

Mystery smell settles over Manhattan

Manhattan, NY — New York officials evacuated a number of buildings and shut down some trains after a mysterious gaslike odor was reported Monday.

A New York Police Department spokesman said an air quality test determined that the air is not hazardous, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said there is no indication terrorism was involved.

No Jewish cemetery in Idaho

Boise, ID — When Larry Moskowitz took over the Har Jehuda cemetery 25 years ago, he changed the rules laid down by his uncle, father and grandfather.

None of them, operators of the Upper Darby, Pa., cemetery founded by the family in 1896, would allow non-Jewish burials.

“They took it to the hilt,” Moskowitz said. “They’d talk to family members on that horrible day. Some families left for that reason. There’s no need for that.”

Miami, FL — When Igor Medge left Moscow in 1991, he never imagined that he would sponsor the writing of one of the 54 sections of a Torah. Medge was used to religious oppression in Russia due to his Jewish heritage.

”It was difficult to attend Jewish services because we were afraid some anti-Semitic person would go after us,” Medge said. “In Moscow, I remember some years when there was a religious holiday, the government put cars in the street to disturb Jewish people to go to synagogue.”

New evidence has cast serious doubt over police allegations that an Israeli yeshiva student’s brain haemorrhage was due to a “drunken accident”.

Nitzan Zerach, 21, a student at Sydney’s Yeshiva Centre, was hospitalised last Thursday with a brain haemorrhage and facial injuries.

A police spokesperson told the AJN late on Monday: “New facts have come to light and we are keeping an open mind.

Friendship Circle is off to a great start in Ottawa

Ottawa, Canada — At a recent ribbon cutting ceremony, the Honourable Jim Watson, M.P.P. for Ottawa-West, Nepean, announced a grant of $42,600 on behalf of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Government of Ontario to the Jewish Youth Library of Ottawa for the purpose of starting Friendship Circle. The program matches teenage volunteers from the community with families who have a child with special needs. Police are investigating an alleged attack on two ultra-Orthodox teenagers, including one who was already on crutches, which may have been motivated by antisemitism or anti-Israel sentiment.

The boys, aged 16 and dressed in traditional black-and-white Orthodox garb, were waiting for a tram in Melbourne’s Chapel Street on Tuesday night when a car pulled up and one of its passengers allegedly shouted, “You killed our cousins in Lebanon”, in what is believed to be a reference to Israel’s war against Hezbollah last July.

Chabad Jewish Center Celebrates New Torah

Naperville, IL — The completion of a new Torah scroll for the recently established Chabad Jewish Center of Naperville was celebrated Sunday at the Alfred J. Rubin Riverwalk Community Center in downtown Naperville.

Attendees sang, clapped and danced in a procession that began inside the center, spilled outside and wound through the surrounding streets. At the front of the line was the new Torah, protected from the elements by a wedding canopy.

Like any group of youngsters their age, the children at Camp Gan Israel were out to have a good time. And they did.

There was storytelling, games, arts and crafts, and field trips where they jumped and shouted, went bowling and flew down giant inflatable slides.

A Melava Malkah with Talmidim HaShluchim

Perhaps the most impressive event of a spectacular weekend took place Motzoei Shabbos after many hours of intense farbrenging. Rabbi Shloime Zarchi’s inspirational words carried over to a stirring Melave Malke hosted in the Mirador Resort. Rabbi Avraham Korf was dramatically introduced by emcee Meir Simcha Rubashkin Shliach to the Yeshiva in Morristown N.J., who continued to humor and entertain throughout the evening. As the Talmidim HaShluchim partook in the delicious dinner, Rabbi Yosef Denburg Shliach to Coral Springs Florida, followed by Rabbi Shai Amar Shliach to Golden Beach Florida, captivated the Shluchim telling compelling stories and thought provoking ideas.

Another Daytime Burglary in Crown Heights

The incident took place this past Wednesday at around 3:30 in the afternoon, one of the residents of the house on Carroll St between Schenectady and Utica entered the house and encountered the thief who pulled a knife on him and fled out the back door through the kitchen.

He described the perp as a Male Black around the age of 15 or 16 with a medium build. He had already been through the house and had stuffed various items in his backpack. The items ranged from silver candlesticks that were on the dining room table, wallets and some jewelry. The perp knew what he was looking for avoiding the things that weren’t of significant value, such as a knockoff watch and some real looking jewelry.

Over 100 Bochurim-Shluchim Spend Shabbos in Miami

Over 100 Bochurim-Shluchim at the biggest ever Kinus yet, finished a Shabbos of non-stop Farbrengens. The energy in the room was palpable, as all of them danced shoulder-to-shoulder, celebrating their common zechus in being the Rebbe’s Shluchim.

Following Mincha on Friday evening, the Shluchim found their seats as Yudi Steiner, Kinus coordinator, officially welcomed the assembled Shluchim. After his warm opening remarks, he introduced the guest Mashpia, Rabbi Shlomo Zarchi who spoke for a few minutes on the purpose of the Kinus and the significance of it taking place on Shabbos Vayechi.

Kinus Hatmimim Hashluchim Underway in Miami

Over 100 Bochurim-Shluchim gathered from the United States and Canada in Miami Beach, Florida for the annual Kinus Hatmimim Hashulchim. The Bochurim began arriving on Thursday night and were set up in their room in the Yeshiva of Miami. That night Bochurim had already gathered and begun Farbrenging with each other.

Friday morning at 8:30am was a Shiur Chassidus in the Maamor Bosi Legani from R. Yosef Yeshaya Abrams mashpia in the Yeshiva, followed by Shacharis, breakfast and registration where Bochurim received a tefillin bag.

The Bochurim later heard a Shiur on Hilchos Mikvo’os from R. Pinchos Weberman the Rabbi of Kehillas Ohev Shalom in Miami.
