Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal (L) and German Interior
Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble (R) attend a prayer
service in a Berlin synagogue.

Berlin, Germany — German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble, members of the parliament and ministerial representatives attended a local synagogue prayer service Thursday afternoon to show their support for the Jewish community following the attack over the weekend against a Jewish kindergarten.

The prayer service was also intended to express the community’s concern about the increase of hate related crime.

Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal, of the Berlin Chabad Lubavitch Synagogue which runs the Gan-Israel kindergarten, was astounded by the large showing despite the short time he had to organise the gathering.

Just One More Cup

Rabbi Shea Hecht – NCFJE

The other night my son walked into my room and told me, “You know the recent rumors that so-and-so died of a heart attack or something like that? It really didn’t make too much sense to me when I heard it because he was so young and now I just heard the real, harsh truth. He spent the night drinking and died of alcohol poisoning.”

The story my son told me hit me like a sledgehammer….

Sitka, AK — With Yud-Aleph Nissan just a month away; giving a gift to the Rebbe is on every chossid’s mind. Over 25 years ago, the Rebbe began a push that the Tanya be printed in any location where there is even one Jew. Ever since, Tanyas have been printed globaly, in nearly every city. The Rebbe explains that by printing; one accomplishes that not only are the “wellsprings” spread everywhere, but that the city itself, becomes a wellspring of its own (Lukkutei Sichos vol. 26).

A Sichah for Purim

The Rebbe says:

1. The Megillah (the scroll which we read the “Book of Esther” from) describes the wicked haman as “haman the agagite”. Agag was a King of the amelekites and the wicked haman descended from this King.

Question: Why is the wicked haman described as “haman the agagite”, and what does this have to do with Purim?

2. The Rebbe now builds the foundation for the explanation:

The Haftorah (a text selected from “The Prophets” which is read on Shabbat after the Torah reading) which we always read on the Shabbos before Purim tells us the story of king agag:

From Feeling Like a Nobody to Becoming a Somebody

Josh Samples – Chabad.edu

Columbus, OH — There are plenty of reasons the Chabad house on campus has always been a home away from home, and so much more for me.

For instance, I can safely say that the best things in life are free, especially if you’re in need of a good kosher meal. When I first arrived at Ohio State University, thousands of miles away from home in Seattle – and hundreds of miles from anyone I knew for that matter – to say I was intimidated is an understatement. The Columbus, Ohio school boasts a very large student body, so I decided to look for something besides the typical ice-breaker in the hope of finding some people who were actually like me.

Fuel Explosion in a Mechanic Shop

At around 9:10 this morning there was an explosion in a Mechanic shop on Troy Ave between East New York and Lefferts, the area quickly filled with smoke and flames were visible from inside the shop. FDNY arrived on scene only moments after the fire broke out and quickly raised the fire to a 2nd alarm, brining a lot more firefighters and EMS workers to the scene.

It took around 30 minutes to completely subdue the fire during which the school Bnos Menachem who is adjacent to the rear of the mechanic shop began filling with smoke. Numerous Shomrim members who were on scene quickly evacuated the school in an orderly fashion. Some children were seen in their Purim costumes.

The Weekly Sedra – Parshas Tetzaveh

The Rebbe says:

1. At the conclusion of this week’s Torah portion, the Torah tells us about the Mizbe’ach Ha’za’hav (the Altar covered in gold).

2. Our Sages tell us that the Altar covered in gold, and the Altar covered in copper which the Torah told us about in last week’s Torah portion, cannot become impure (Tamei) no matter what touches it.

There are 2 reasons given as to why the Altars cannot become impure:

Tomorrow – Taanit Esther – the Fast of Esther

Chabad.org

Because Adar 13 (the day before Purim) falls on a Shabbos this year, the “Fast of Esther,” usually observed on that date, is moved back to Thursday, the 11th of Adar, March 1st.

Fast Begins: 5:09 AM
Fast Ends: 6:26 PM

The fast — which is observed on Adar 11 by all adults (i.e., over bar or bat mitzvah age) — is in commemoration of the three-day fast called at Esther’s behest before she risked her life to appear unsummoned before King Achashveirosh to save the Jewish people from Haman’s evil decree (as related in the Book of Esther, chapter 4). The fast also commemorates Esther’s fasting on the 13th of Adar, as the Jews fought their enemies (see “Today in Jewish History” for Adar 13). No food or drink is partaken of from daybreak to nightfall. Pregnant, nursing women or people in ill health are exempted from fasting.
