In great Shock we inform you of the very tragic and untimely passing of R. Gedalya Yerachmiel Shaffer OBM of Crown Heights. His life was claimed in a tragic car crash in California, he was 61 years old.

He is survived by his wife Bronya, Children Liba Goldman (Teaneck, NJ), Nechama Dina Simon (Teaneck, NJ), Devorie Slutzkin (Zurich, Switzerland), Yosef Chaim (Crown Heights), Batyia (Crown Heights), Yehuda Leib (Crown Heights), Chana (Crown Heights), Shaina (Crown Heights), Yitzchok (Crown Heights), Michal (Crown Heights) and by a Brother in Boston and two sisters in Paris and Baltimore.

The Levaya will be Tomorrow, Thursday. It will be leaving at around 1:00pm from the Shomrei Hadaas Chapel and will be passing by 770 at around 2:00pm.

Toronto, Canada — Rabbi Menachem Gansburg and his wife Chana have brought Chabad to a trendy section of Avenue Road north of Lawrence Avenue, causing some initially confused reactions from people who wonder why they’re not on nearby Bathurst Street, with its many Jewish shops and institutions.

Thirty years ago, large North American cities like Toronto typically had one Chabad institution. Today, “almost every zip code has representation,” said Rabbi Zalman Grossbaum, director of Chabad Lubavitch activities for Ontario.

“You have Chabad spilling into every community, every pocket where Jews are situated.”

In Toronto and the surrounding area, there are about 17 Chabad centres, including in Mississauga, Hamilton and Niagara Falls.

She will then be leaving to join her family in Pittsburgh at 5834 Hobart St until Sunday morning.

Yeshiva of the Twin Cities Shabbaton

Twin Cities, MN — The bochurim the Yeshiva are still reeling from a fantastic Shabbaton to Mequon, Wisconsin. The bochurim were awakened at 5AM Friday, and drove four hours to Madison, WI, for Shacharis and breakfast by Rabbi Yonah Matusof’s Chabad House. Before continuing on to Mequon, the yeshiva stopped at the Henry Vilas Zoo. While there, they were filmed by a local TV crew for the evening news.

Dozens who listened to the reading at Deering High School greeted the name with noisemakers, jeers aimed at a man who, according to the Bible, tried to annihilate Persia’s Jews more than 2,300 years ago.

Stroudsburg, PA — As Passover approaches, another Jewish holiday is being celebrated this weekend. The Pocono Purim Spectacular featured food, fun and entertainment. Costume-clad participants celebrated with a Megillah slide show. Purim commemorate the story of a time when the Jewish people living in Persia were saved from extermination. Mrs. Nadoff was the dedicated principal of the Yeshiva Girls School of Pittsburgh, PA for many years and was Zoche to receive a number of Horaos from the Rebbe with regards to Chinuch. She was 73 years old.

She is survived by Yibadlu Lechaim Tovim her mother Rochel Dunn (Pittsburgh, PA), husband Harav Binyomin Nadoff, and children: Aliza Zarchi (Crown Heights), Chanina Nadoff (Monsey, NY), Naomi Chinn (Toronto, Canada), Shifra Feigelstock (Vancouver, Canada), Dovid Nadoff (Pittsburgh, PA), Yehuda Nadoff (Chicago, IL), Yisroel Nadoff (Twin Rivers, NJ), Gedalyah Hymn (Pittsburgh , PA) and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren K”AH.

The Aron will be passing the Yeshiva Girls School at 10:45 in Pittsburgh and will be at the Shomer Hacomos chapel on Ft Hamiulton and 43rd street at approximately 6:45 PM and pass by 770 at around 8:45pm and will leave to Eretz Yisorel at 11:50pm where she will be laid to rest.
