Vladivostok Jewish community Celebrates Purim

Vladivostok, Russia — A blizzard was falling. It would be the highest snowfall for the season in over 130 years – over 2 feet of snow. Nonetheless, over 200 people gathered in the local puppet theater for an afternoon of entertainment and Jewish pride.

Rabbi Yisroel Silberstein read the megillah, accompanied by a beautiful multimedia slide show. The local Sachnut performed a Purim Shpiel, and the audience was enthralled by the antics of the international circus group Arlikien. A musical performance, led by renowned violinist, Leonid Veinman, kept the community spellbound.

Finally, as the snowflakes continued to fall outside, the crowd gathered in the hall for a Viennese table of Purim foods.

As the crowd dispersed, they talked excitedly about the wonderful afternoon, and the Jewish pride, suppressed for so long, that now burns strong. All eagerly await the next holiday.
