Just a few months ago, Rabbi Levi Stiefel was studying at Chabad’s kollel in Melbourne.

But since December 2006, he has volunteered to live in the small city of Voronezh in Russia and establish a Jewish school where none exists.

“I feel a need to educate people here in regard to their Jewish roots. Jewish culture is also very important. If we want to see a future in Jewish education in Russia grow, this project needs to take place,” Rabbi Stiefel, 25, told the AJN by phone.

Earlier today at around 11:45am there was an accident involving the Rebbes car. The incident took place in the intersection of Troy and Carroll, the Cadillac was driving up Troy Ave when a dark gray 15 passenger van, driven by another Yid, ran a red light and was hit by the Cadillac.

Abuse, harassment, aggression, shouting, yelling, screaming, degradation and dehumanization.

These are but a few of the terms one can use to describe a shopping experience at a large number of the stores in our neighborhood.

This behavior would come as an utter shock to anyone in the outside world where such treatment is deemed absolutely unacceptable. It would result in consumers no longer patronizing such merchants, and the eventual downfall of the business in question.

Fire in a Jewish Apartment Bulding

Crown Heights, Brooklyn – At around 10:45pm, Motzoai Shabbos a fire broke out in a Jewish apartment building. The incident took place on the second floor of 1650 President St. between Utica and Schenectady, many residents were forced to evacuate due to heavy smoke conditions in the building.

On April 20, Colleges Respond to Tragic Virginia Tech Massacre

Los Angeles, CA, April 19 — This Friday night, Jewish women on college campuses across America will join together to dispel the darkness of the Virginia Tech tragedy with the shining light of Shabbat candles.

Rabbi Ari Baitelman, Director of Chabad’s FridayLight project, said that both public candle-lighting events and more private prayer vigils will be held on campuses nationwide at 18 minutes before sundown on Friday, April 20.

The Rebbe says:

1. In this week’s Torah portion the commandment to circumcise a young infant is mentioned. The verse says “On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised” (Chapter 12, Verse 3).

2. The Rebbe analyzes this:

The Torah tells us that we should circumcise our children and it should specifically be on the 8th day after their birth. Seemingly this means that if someone circumcises his son after the 8th day he would be missing out on the exact Mitzvah of circumcision (even if he was forced to postpone the circumcision because the child was not yet ready).
