New Shluchim to Australia

Rabbi Shmuel and his wife Henna (nee Haber) Kopel and their daughter will IYH moving on shlichus to North Shore, Sydney, Australia,

They will establish a center for Adult Education as part of the new shluchie mivtza torah initiative spreading Yiddishkite and the Ma’ayonos.

They were appointed by Rabbi Nuchum Schapiro and will be working through his Chabad House.

We would like to thank all those who assisted in this shlichus especially the Rohr family, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky and Rabbi Ephraim Mintz.

Orlando, FL — When Rabbi Chaim and Rivkie Lipskier learned they would be co-directors of the new Chabad house at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, they were excited to start a permanent home together as emissaries, or shluchim, of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The husband-and-wife team had traveled to dozens of locations around the world to reach out to Jewish communities, and finally found their place in Florida.

Pasadena, CA — This past Sunday, Chabad of Pasadena community members gathered at the park for a fun-filled day of games, food and schmoozing. The great weather and fine turn-out made this years Lag Ba’Omer event a truly memorable one. The community baseball game was lots of fun, with players ranging in ages from four years old to sixty years old. The kids enjoyed playing a wide variety of relay races as well as jumping on the most deluxe moon-bounce LA has to offer. An all-you-can-eat BBQ and some great snacks made this a truly enjoyable picnic…

Brit Makes Local History

Krasnoyarsk, Russia — Eight days after Rabbi Wagner and his wife Dina, welcomed a son, their child’s Brit Milah ceremony became part of local history and signified a growth of the community. This was the first ceremony in decades to follow all of the Jewish traditions associated with the ancient trdition and included over one hundred of their closest friends and family. The Chief Mohel of Russia, Dr. Ishaya Shafit, who came from Moscow, performed the bris. He had been to Krasnoyarsk before but only to perform the ceremony on two adults that decided to go through the ritual.

New Shluchim to Connecticut

Rabbi and Mrs. Menachem Feldman of Crown Heights have just moved on Shlichus to Greenwich Connecticut where Rabbi Feldman is serving as Director of Adult Education and Mrs. Feldman as Director of the Chabad Hebrew School.

The Shluchim were appointed by Rabbi Yossi Deren of Chabad of Greenwich in connection with the Shluchei Torah Grant from the Rohr Family Foundation.

Attempted Mugging in front of 770

Crown Heights, Brooklyn – At around 10:00pm a member of Anash left downstairs 770 after Maariv and as he passed the upstairs entrance he was approached by 3 Black males who demanded his money.

The would be victim quickly yelled ‘Chaptzem’ and ‘Help!’ and a large group of Bochurim and Anash came out to his assistance scaring off two of the suspects and apprehending one.

Chief Rabbi Lazar: Russia not facing neo-Nazis

Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar said Sunday that not enough was being done to deal with neo-Nazi groups in the country, Israel Radio reported.

The rabbi’s comments came a day after the murder of a Jewish teacher in St. Petersburg. The stab wounds on Dmitriy Nikulinskiy’s body, noted Lazar, prove that his killing was an anti-Semitic attack.

St. Petersburg has a long history of terror-related murders, but this is the first time in the last few years that a Jew was murdered for this reason, added the rabbi.

Glass Bottle Thrown At A Bochur

Crown Heights, Brooklyn – Last night, Motzoai Shabbos at around 10:00pm a Bochur was walking on Albany Ave between Eastern Parkway and Union St and talking on his cell phone noticed three Black teens hanging around on the corner of Eastern Pkwy and Albany, so he avoided them and continued walking when all of a sudden one of them threw a glass bottle at him.

B”H the bottle missed the Bochur, it fell short and smashed all over the sidewalk. The Bochur immediately called Shomrim who responded and canvassed the area for what the Bochur described was three Black teens around the ages of 17 all wearing black raincoats with hoodies.

Miami Beach Celebrates Lag BaOmer with Parde and Carnival

Miami Beach, FL — A procession of floats, pick-up trucks, flatbeds, kiddy trains and cars led the way, as the greater Miami Beach Jewish community kicked off its Lag B’Omer celebration. Named the “Unity Parade and Carnival,” this year’s celebration brought together all of the local synagogues to observe the festive day as one community.
