Washington, DC — As in the past, four Chabad shluchim took part in the ‘National Day of Prayer’ event held on May 3rd in Washington DC. The event was attended by President George W Bush, senior members of his cabinet and representatives from both senate and congress.

Rabbi and Mrs. Yisroel Hahn of Crown Heights have just moved on Shlichus to Spokane, Washington to open a new Chabad Center serving the Jewish community in Spokane county.

The new Shluchim were appointed by Rabbi S.B. Levitin, head Shliach to the state of Washington.

Lag BaOmer Parade in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA — More than 4,000 men, women and children joined Chabad at Schneerson Square in Los Angeles. Pico Boulevard was closed between Doheny and Crest for Chabad’s massive Lag b’Omer Unity Street Fair and Concert. A project of “Chabad Youth Programs” of West Coast Chabad-Lubavitch, the festivities commenced at 11:00 am with a parade down Pico Boulevard that included flag-waving children, a real marching band and colorful parade floats built by local schools and organizations.

After the parade, thousands made their way down Kingston and enjoyed the many rides and attractions that were set up. From moon bouncing to the petting zoo and pony rides including face painting and everything in between!

Looking for Friends and Finding Family

I came to the University of Hartford three years ago with two goals. One – of couse – was doing well academically, while the other was finding friends. I asked myself, what would be a good way to meet people? There were many organizations to choose from on campus, so I joined a couple. I had fun in those clubs and I met a handful of friends with whom I am still friends today.

Milford, MA — With shouts of mazel tov, local Jews yesterday dedicated a Torah, the sacred scrolls that, in the words of one rabbi, bind the Jewish nation together as a people.

Toronto, Canada — Jewish Unity Parade in honor of Lag BaOmer, arranged by Chabad-Lubavitch across the GTA. The event took place on Bathurst St. by Earl Bales Park on Sunday, May 6, 2007. An estimated 2,500 people turned out for the festivities.

Lag BaOmer Parade in London

London, England — Lag Bomer in London rocked with over 2500 people (according to police estimation) attending the parade, the main high street in Stamford Hill was closed especially for the parade.

All spectrums of anglo Jewry were represented. Rabbi ND Dubov, shliach in London was the MC for the parade. Children from all over the UK and even as far as Holland said the Yud Beis Pesukim. The guest speaker was Rabbi MY Engel, shliach in California.

Girl Falls into a Hole at a Construction Site

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — Yesterday, Sunday, a young girl was playing with her friends at a construction site near her home on President St fell into a gap between a few stacks of bricks, and could not get herself out. The girls friends quickly ran to call for help and the father came to see what he could do.

The psychiatric ward at Kings County Hospital is a shameful “chamber of filth, decay, indifference and danger” where patients are subjected to overcrowded conditions, physical abuse and unnecessary injections of mood-altering drugs, a federal lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday by Sidney Hirschfeld, head of Mental Hygiene Legal Service, a state agency, paints a portrait of horrors at the psychiatric ward where patients – including children and the physically disabled – are routinely neglected and abused.
