Burglar Apprehended after Violent Burglary Goes Bad

At 10:00 this morning residents of 1339 Union St. corner of New York Ave. were awakened to the sounds of a woman screaming in the hallway. A 46 year old black male attempted to break into one of the apartments of the 7 family condo building. Upon failing at his break-in attempt the intruder made his way to the next apartment via the Sukah porches on the inside courtyard of the building. Although he finally succeeded at entering an apartment, the building superintendent witnessed this and immediately called 911.

The super proceeded to enter the apartment and was immediately greeted by the 6’4″ burglar who then attacked him. A scuffle ensued all around the apartment, starting in the bedroom, continuing into the hallway, and then the living room where the burglar broke free and made a dash for the porch. He vanished leaving behind an injured super, and a scuffed and damaged apartment.

Beware! Missionary’s In Your Mail!

The Missionary DVD that showed up in peoples mail box.

Crown Heights has long been a target for missionary activity; their most common tactic is that of well dressed people with bibles that look like ‘Chumashim’ with the Hebrew letters and they would prey on mostly children but they are easy to spot and avoid. Now it seems they have launched a new campaign via mail, numerous household received a DVD over Shabbos entitled “Yemot Hamashiach – Days Of Moshiach”, this DVD is a movie glorifying ‘their Moshiach’ and should be gotten rid of just like any other junk mail.

It is important to note that this isn’t the first time that they employed such evasive tactics, there were two other incidents [click here for the first and second Articles] as reported here on CrownHeights.info.

These people are strangers and just like we warned our kids of the incidents that took place in other communities, you should warn them of these people too. If you see such activities in our neighborhood don’t hesitate to call Shomrim at (718) 774-3333.

Shomrim’s Bike Registration a Major Success

Friday started off murky and rainy but quickly turned into a nice warm and sunny day, enabling the scheduled Bike Registration to go on. The bike registration took place in front of “Everything Automotive” on East New York Ave. together with members of the NYPD’s Community Affairs, Auxiliary and Explorer Units along with the Crown Heights Shomrim Division.

The Bike Registration program is aimed at discouraging bike thefts as well as identifying recovered bikes. The summer is upon us and we know that the children are out on their bikes and the theft rates do go up.

Shomrim took it upon themselves to get as many bikes as possible registered, and the turnout was very good, with over 125 bikes and scooters registered not only by children, but by adults as well. The program included lots of free prizes and raffles, including a bike which was sponsored by the “Bargain Center”, a scooter which was sponsored by “Zakons Toys and Stationary”, and a Helmet Set which was sponsored by “JewishSinger.com”, as well as drinks and other refreshments.

Over 600 kids attended and were met by Shomrim Members, Police Officers and Cadets all of whom volunteered from their time to explain the benefits of registering their bikes along with safety tips for the summer among many other things to the kids. Among the attractions was a Police van that kids were able to sit in and play around with the sirens and speakers as well as the Shomrim Mobile Command Post, all of which added to a great and fun filled event.

The winning numbers for the Raffles are as follows: Bike – Ticket #6642174. Scooter – Ticket# 6642094. Helmet Set – Ticket# 6642150. if you are the holder of a ticket with any of these numbers, please bring it to 419 Kingston Ave. [Between Empire and Montgomery] to claim you prize!
