Brooklyn, NY — Dovid Taub has learned a lot since hand-sewing his first puppet four years ago to entertain a bunch of young summer campers.

“It looked very bad. It was five feet tall and cumbersome to use,” Taub, now 25, recalled.

Today, the Brooklyn rabbinical student makes 30-inch puppets that are featured in a video program he produces for www.chabad.org, the Web site of the international Chabad Lubavitch Movement headquartered in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section.

This Sunday concluded a week long overnight camping experience that will never be forgotten. The 8-day winter camp, located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains , was sponsored by Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe ( F.R.E.E.) directed by Rabbis Meir & Hirshel Okunov.

The camp, headed by Rabbi Mendel Okunov and Rabbi Dan Dashevsky, was specifically geared for public-school boys from Russian immigrant families, with little or no religious background.

New Project: Afternoon School For Tzeirei Hashluchim

Mushky, Yehudis and Yisroel Turk, of Cordoba, Argentina, studying at the Shluchim Office’s Online School.

Once there was no educational option for shluchim’s children other than home schooling. With today’s technological revolution, however, the Shluchim Office operates an online school for kids on shlichus the world over—and in time for the Kinus, the Shluchim Office is adding a new “Chassidishe afternoon school” just for young shluchim attending non-Chabad Jewish schools.

On the heels of its Online School’s tremendous success, the Shluchim Office is launching a new project: An afternoon school with curriculum specifically designed for shluchim’s children studying at their local Jewish school but not getting sufficient Chassidishe education.

It’s not just the patient who feels isolated and frustrated, as Devora Hosseinof of Teaneck discovered when her 15-month-old daughter, who had salmonella poisoning, was admitted to Englewood Hospital erev Pesach last year.

The holiday began on Friday night, forcing a worst-case scenario for the Orthodox mother — who spent three days and nights sleeping on a chair in her daughter’s room. Her husband, Josh, had stayed home with the other children, and people at the local synagogue couldn’t know she was right across the street because there was no way to let them know — she had no appropriate food for Pesach and limited access to a kosher pantry.

In October 2005, a lawsuit was filed in federal court against the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for denying an observant Jewish inmate in Lovelady, Texas, a proper kosher diet. The suit charged that the TDCJ, by not providing Max Moussazadeh nutritionally sufficient kosher meals, was in violation of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000.

A Shliach, A Karate Master, A Writer, A Major…

As reported at the time, Rabbi Fishel Jacobs of Kfar Chabad, Israel retired from his prestigious Israel government rabbinical post last year, Elul. His hope was that this would allow him to better serve an”ash, and the public in general, by being able to dedicate more time to writing and appearances.

Many readers may be aware that Rabbi Jacobs authored the acclaimed Family Purity – A Guide to Marital Fulfillment.

Additionally, for over thirteen years he served as a full-time prison chaplain with the Israel Prison Service, I.P.S. He was a staff officer, his rank was Major.

Yeshivas Kayitz of South Africa!

We would like to start off by thanking the Rebbe for giving us an inspirational summer and lifetime experience.

This past summer was a smashing success in the Yeshivas Kayitz of South Africa.
Based out of Johannesburg, 36 Bochurim had the time of their lives under the guidance of the Hanoholas Hayeshiva, along with a great and devoted staff.

The Bochurim spent 7 weeks learning, and touring Southern Africa. There were those that completed Mesechtas Brochos, while others finished Mesechtas Tomid, and many completed Sefer Ha’Maimorim Melukat Gimmal. In spite of all of this learning, they still managed to tour a vast amount, including a Shabbos in Durban and Cape Town, visiting Kruger, Umhlanga, Plett, the garden route and much much more. Beyond for the many trips, those bochrim who excelled in shmeras hasedorim were rewarded weekly with a special trip.
