Chabad’s Torah to honor military

Ventura County Star

On behalf of Rabbi Dov Muchnik and the Chabad of Oxnard, I would like to invite veterans and their families to the dedication of a Torah (the whole body of Jewish religious literature, including the Scripture and Talmud), to honor and memorialize members of the U.S. military.

The ceremony will be Sept. 10 at Fisherman’s Wharf, Channel Islands Harbor (Victoria Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard), beginning at 1 p.m.

The first letters of the Liberty Torah, as it will be known, will be inscribed by a Jewish scribe at the ceremony to coincide with the eve of the fifth anniversary of 9/11. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Liberty Torah will be sent to Israel, where it will be completed and returned to the Chabad of Oxnard.

Yeshivas Kayitz of South Africa!

Written by a Staff Member!

We would like to start off by thanking the Rebbe for giving us an inspirational summer and lifetime experience.

This past summer was a smashing success in the Yeshivas Kayitz of South Africa.
Based out of Johannesburg, 36 Bochurim had the time of their lives under the guidance of the Hanoholas Hayeshiva, along with a great and devoted staff.

The Bochurim spent 7 weeks learning, and touring Southern Africa. There were those that completed Mesechtas Brochos, while others finished Mesechtas Tomid, and many completed Sefer Ha’Maimorim Melukat Gimmal. In spite of all of this learning, they still managed to tour a vast amount, including a Shabbos in Durban and Cape Town, visiting Kruger, Umhlanga, Plett, the garden route and much much more. Beyond for the many trips, those bochrim who excelled in shmeras hasedorim were rewarded weekly with a special trip.

Disengagement Video Presentation In Support Of Gush Katif Project

“Religious Zionists believe that Redemption will come through the state,” explained Mrs. Aliza Karp at a Shlaimos HaAretz gathering for women on Thursday night in Crown Heights. “This is part of the reason the Jews of Gush Katif were compelled to cooperate when the army came to tell them that the democratically elected government had decided their mission in Gush Katif was finished. We need to help them recognize that expelling Jews from Jewish land is a deep Golus – not part of a Redemption process – they need to understand that Redemption comes through Moshiach.”

“Many of the people who were expelled from Gush Katif are suffering from the trauma of how they have been treated,” added Mrs. Baila Kamman. “The Gush Katif women who come to the Farbrengens hosted by the women of Kfar Chabad are very encouraged. They see that Chabad has not forgotten them and they are open to learning Chassidus.”

New Torah Scroll in Greece – First Time Since WW2

Arutz Sheva

This Sunday, for the first time since World War II, a Torah Scroll will be completed and instated in a synagogue in Greece – thanks to the efforts of a dedicated family and a Toronto woman.

Ms. Miriam Leah Danessis of Toronto, formerly from Greece, has spent over five years working on behalf of the dwindling Jewish community in the Mediterranean country. She began by arranging for the Lubavitch movement to send a “shliach” (emissary) family – Rabbi Mendel and Nechama Hendel – to Athens, and later proceeded to have a Torah scroll written for and delivered to an Athens synagogue.

Marking this landmark occasion of the new Torah scroll, a joyous ceremony will be held this Sunday, at the Synagogue of Chalkida in Athens. The invitation notes that the Torah Scroll is known as the “Love of Israel and Unity of Israel” scroll.
